Ground meat as good as steaks?

I really like to cook somethings like burgers with ground beef, so I wonder if it is differentto cooking steaks. Is ground beef the same thing, or not? Thesesteaks are so expensive, that I don't see the point in overpaying forthem when I can get the same beef, but in a bit different form.

It's a question of taste and lean cuts vs healthy choices. You can ground up steak and make that into a burger if you so wished.

The reason they will usually grind the meat in the malls and shops is because they add in there lots of "dirty" meat - fat and ligaments.

If you actually see clean meat getting ground in front of you, then there is absolutely no difference between ground meat and steaks. So you just need to make sure that this ground meat is of high quality.

Generally speaking - ground meat is much higher in fat then steaks.

When they cut up a cow into steaks and roasts, they save the scraps and grind it up into ground meat. That's why ground meat is so much cheaper then steaks/roasts.

If you really like ground meat, your best option would be to buy lean steaks and grind them up yourself. You can buy a meat grinder for around 200 bucks.

Thank you guys for the info. I do get the butcher to make the ground meat for me from the steaks I choose, so there is no fat. Even if it were ok with the diet, I would not eat fatty meat cause I don't like it. So in such case, if the meat is non-fat it is ok and the same?

Yes it is. Just because it's been ground by a butcher makes it no different to you chewing a steak (your molar teeth grind food).

If you get yourself a grass fed steak and grind it yourself you can have a very high quality burger. You can add some really good things to it as well like garlic, egg, and any seasoning you want. Just be careful with the sauces as they can be sugar based and have lots of calories.
