Global warming?

I don't know either. Should have just kept talking about global warming and how we have to pay our carbon taxes to al gore.

Why stop at golbal warming? As a general population we obviously dont know whats best for ourselves, so let the government decide everything for me like which foods to eat, clothes to buy, car to drive, where to live, where to work. You would be included in that population as well just so you know, since you arent an Elite.

you are blowing climate policy way out of proportion. the government isn't telling you that you can't emit carbon. it is trying to make sure that high-emitting businesses reduce their GHGs, since they are contributing to climate change and profiting from it.

everyone benefits when emissions are curtailed, but we can't count on businesses to voluntarily do so when all they care about is maximizing profits. it's the same type of policy intervention that gave us catalytic converters on all our cars so that we aren't all choking on toxic exhaust fumes. pretty simple stuff, and definitely not fascist as you implied earlier

"everyone likes their freedom more, but people don't face the true cost of their GHG emissions. that's why you need policy to overcome individual selfishness and force cooperation to achieve a better outcome"

You are talking about forcing individuals through the government, not innocuously curtailing GHG emissions of big corporations.

Sorry if all our totalitarian bells are going off here. I bet if I looked I could find Stalin quotes that are almost word for word, just sub in something else for GHG emissions.

We cant rely on business and corporations to do whats best for the people of America without rules?
GTFoutta heeeeeeerrrre.
naww. They are ALWAYS looking out for the American people 1st.

Business without some regulation is never good. You have to look no further than slavery to see how that works. I just think there are some better solutions than the current cap and trade.

i agree. cap and trade doesn't really work for GHGs unless the whole world participates. otherwise you just end up with leakage and the GHGs are produced elsewhere, while hurting the economy of the entity implementing the cap.

i think fuel economy standards are still a good solution since they actually end up saving people money over the long run. I also like the renewable energy standard since you also see a lot of air quality co-benefits, plus it helps advance renewable energy technology which i think will also end up being a money-saver and a long-term global solution.

well i guess i could've phrased that better then

If you don't believe in the FACT of global warming, do you believe in that cell phone in your pocket? Because that fucking little miracle is a lot harder to figure out for scientists than it is to figure out that climate is changing and warming and the reasons why. That's basic shit. Believing science isn't a choice like with religion. Science works. Look at your cell phone.

I believe in the scientific fact of global warming & cooling cycles... It's proven in the layers of rock. I also believe in the unmatchable talent in the imagination of Al Gore, et al, and in the gullibility of the tax-paying public. People love a cause, whether it's fake or real, and will do anything to divert worry away from real problems that we CAN fix with a great deal of pain and suffering, but must face some day soon. At least with the war on global warming, we know Mother Nature will win, so no guilt need be felt when we finally realize we're losing.

Rather than to bring the entire American public to a grinding halt by stopping oil drilling, and stopping the generating of coal-fired electric plants under the pretense of preventing global warming risks, making car paint that lasts 2 years to require repainting many times, let's use what technology we have, to retrofit our society to accommodate the coming changes. The way we're going with our heads buried, we'll suddenly realize too late, after we've spent all our resources on stopping global warming, when in fact it is happening regardless of mankind and our "carbon footprint" (what a cool term, LOL). Because I'm a nice guy, I'll refrain from laughing and yelling "Told 'ya so" to the Gore congregation from my home in the Republic of Texas, where global warming will be handled by acceptance and preparedness.
