Ganglion cysts from lifting

Hi guys

I know this is something that plagues a lot of lifters. I have two ganglion cysts in my wrist had them for years from 14 years of wrestling. They have always bothered me when lifting usually I just push through. But one is getting really bad.

Anyone have these and know a good way to deal with them at home imnot talking get rid of them or smash them just shrink the size to get rid of the pain

Already been to the doc I have had them drained twice puts me out of the gym for at least two weeks. And the removal surgery sucks and leaves you at risk for really bad joint pain

Just wanted to see how everyone else deals with them if they have them.

I would think the only surefire way to get rid of a cyst is to cut it out. I lift heavy but have never had this. Do you know what causes it? Id get it removed then prevent it from coming back.

basically the cause is continuous strain on the wrists and forearms over an extended period of time, mine popped up freshmen year of high school back in 2001, what happens is there is a small sack of fluid that contains the lubricating fluid for your tendons, the sack can get caugh between the bones, or the joint and fills, i have had mine for years, they can come and go, right now the one on my right wrist is down, but the left one has swollen up quite a bit, they go down on their own, and as i said before i have had them drained, you can have the sack removed, however if you ahve them removed, you can end up wtih a serious lack of lubrication in the joint area and cause a lot of pain, they are also refered to as bible bumps, most commong afflictions of it are lifters and funny enough violinists

If you have them removed you can use krill oil or something to lube joints.

anytime you get a doc going in there and playing around there is a risk. surgery should always be a last option especially in that area

we all have stuff we deal with from when we were younger.. kinda makes me regret playing so many sports.. its funny weightlifting i have never hurt myself, but it was other sports.. soccer, football, etc where i got hurt. i kinda wish i would of stuck with just track and weightlifting only. if i ever have a kid i am gonna encourage him to do both of those sports only.. you aren't running into people and having them bend you around. and you will get faster and stronger in the process and build a good base for the future.

so bottom line is do what you need to do but realize you may be stuck with this problem for life. i have a forearm tendon issue myself, i also have shin issues from my past that i have learned to live with.

Hey Steve I have had them for a while and I deal cause I do not want to go under the knife I feel yah on the sports thing though I was he same ran track all through high school tore my quad doing a long jump. I can def say m on board if I ever have kids it's track cross country or the weight room

^^^ yeah man a sad story but i had a teacher in high school whose son was 8 years old.. he got hit in a soccer game.. freak injury collided with another kid.. and he got paralyzed. the poor lady was a single mom and making a teacher salary couldn't really afford to get him proper care even with insurance that he needed so she would ask the class to chip in a few bucks to help her out. you could tell she was mentally not there the entire year worried about her son.

for me looking back I was lucky I didn't fuck myself up more playing football.. dude i workout with played nose tackle and he broke his sternum.. he is 50 now and it still causes him problems.. hard to imagine something that happened so long ago could still give problems but unfortunately we aren't robots made of steel. i don't think kids realize how injuries have the potential to mess them up permanently and coaches don't care either. they just want to keep their jobs

I'm all for kids playing sports but there are some serious safety concerns that go unaddressed I remember playing pewee football and doing full contact just helmets no pads or my wrestling coach locking us n the room cranking the heat to 105 nd making us do Burpees for the entire two hour practice. It should always be safety first with kids I can't nam one of my friends who is not dealing with some latent injury from playing sports when they were younger heck even my fiancé who danced for 16 years has pain. But like you never hurt myself lifting thanks to the guys at the powerhouse gum I used to go to who taught me tons. I was a 145 lb kid training with 265 lb beasts it was great.

Talk to a doctor. They can shrink on their own, mine did. I religiously wear wrist wraps, especially when benching, pressing, and training the oly lifts. Mine has never been an issue again. YMMV
