G5.0 vs. Gravity: The Neurotic Ramblings of a Man on a Mission

Week 9
TUESDAY
Phase 2 -- Custom DF program

Week 4 of 4-week volume phase

I almost don't want to post this...

Squat
worked up to 365x2

-I woke up early to lift today. I don't think that that's the only reason that today sucked - I've woken early to lift and done great in the past. Hopefully it's just all the goofy stuff from last week and all the fun new stress  I'm under. Plus, I used the gym in my apartment complex, and I could swear that the floor was not level - it felt like I was leaning backwards a little the whole time. Ugh.

Inc. BB Press
warmups, 225x4, 185x10

-Damn. 225 was supposed to be a warmup on the way to 255. I guess fatigue really IS cumulative.

BB rows
225x5x2, x8

-By this point I'd pretty much accepted that this workout sucked.

I'm strongly considering doing one more workout this week and taking a week off. This is ridiculous - no way, no how should I be this beat up unless the travel and stress is hitting me harder than I'm willing to acknowledge.

Chill out on the stress. :)

Even as little as a week out can negatively hit your weights. If you couple it with sleep shortage and generally high stress levels then it's almost guaranteed. After a week away from the gym, I'll spend a couple of workouts to ramp back up. Then again, I'm quite venerable.

Leaning backwards is good, it puts the weight onto your heels. ;)
Maybe not.

Traveling across time zones can wreak havoc on the body.....not necessarily in day to day walking around life, but if you're in the middle of a training cycle, it can ruin progression of lifts. Plus, a move, new job, and sales is a high pressure job nonetheless.....I'd say it's all normal.

Stay focused and forget about your off day. It's just like when a pitcher gets torched and has a bad outting, or when a cornerback gets burned in football. You just have to forget about it, move on, and treat your next workout as a new "play".

up early, stress, lots of travel - 3 ingredients mixed together to make for crappy workouts. You know the drill, next time is going to be better :p

**UPDATE**

Just thought I'd post in here so nobody thinks I quit or died or something. I'm taking this week off in order to get acclimated to my new lifestyle. I am working a TON and with the move and the travel, my sleep has been awful. So I've sworn off caffeine (other than what's in my morning green tea) and I am commiting to getting a solid 8 hours a night, and most importantly on a set schedule. I feel better already, having slept like a hooker after nickel night this weekend. I imagine I'll be dying to hit the weights again next week.

Not sure what I'll run. I may do a week or two of HST-esque 15's just to reinforce healing/conditioning.

Also, my next roommate (I seem to be bouncing around quite a bit lately) wants to put a power rack, bench and weights in his basement. So my dreams of a home gym will soon be a reality, albeit in someone else's home :p
