If any of you need to get certified, you can get a free one while the vouchers last. The site is www.truepersonaltrainer.com. My girlfriend hooked me up with them. She got a ACSM cert voucher there. I don't know how much longer it'll go on for but get 'em while you can!!!!

I checked out that sight and they wanted me to pay 100 bucks... free it was NOT!

*edit I just went back and the $99.00 banner they had where they were charging is gone. I read the fine print and they pay for the cert EXAM ONLY...said nothing of the course work and workshops. had 5 agencies you could get a voucher from, but it picks one for you randomly, if there are any left. Kinda cool, so long as you dont get the scrion institute one.

Actually, that probably would be the one to get because it's the most expensive program they're offering and their program is really hard. It's also way more respected than ISSA or ACE. Plus if you fail the exam you aren't out 800 bucks!!! That would be sweet but I'm happy I got ISSA because I don't think I'll need materials to pass. And you're right, there aren't any fees associated with the promotion at all.

I've seen their site. It's a legitimate deal their offering. The cert you don't want to get is the AFAA cert. That program is so tired and out of touch it's almost laughable. The ACE cert is probably the other one I'd rather not get because so many subpar trainers flaunt that cert around like they've actually achieved something.

okay good to know, cause I got the scrion voucher, I cant even pronounce the name.... I'll look into it. but it did say the test is $799 and it's in 125 sections...
I already have two certs but I'm always up for learning more! I have heard of it, but I don't know anyone who has done it and have never heard anyone even talk about it. I was hoping for the ACSM, but it sounds like I got a good deal w/ this? Thanks for the info!

In my opinion, you got the best deal. You could buy two ACSM certs with the cost of the one you have! Don't underestimate their exam though. It will propably be one of the hardest exams you've ever seen. Good luck!!

I went and checked out their site, and some other forums with some discussions on their program, mixed reviews. The practical would be a sinch, about 50 exercises you would need to demonstrate proficientcy in, cake. But the written is based upon their manual, who knows what they cover. Could be anything. So if/when I do I'll still have to fork out 3 hundy for the books.... did you get acsm? wanna trade???? LOL!

There are two types of programs: There are those certification programs that all of us with over five years experience can pass without utlizing the agencies study materials. Personally, I'm not intersted in those types of programs anymore. I'm not 18 and new to the industry. There is certainly a place for the AFAA and ACE programs, but for us that have been there and done that, there are others like , ACSM, Copper, Scirion, CSCS. I haven't heard "mixed reviews" on the good programs. No one will say the Scirion exam is easy. No one will say the ACSM exam is easy. There is typically only one review... they're really hard! Everyone knows that. If you need their materials to help you pass, then you should get them. I don't think their exam is "based on their materials" though. They didn't invent exercise physiology, they are simply teaching it. If you're wondering if you can simply go in there and take the exam and pass.... that might be a bit cocky. I know people with Master degrees in exercise physiology who took the Scirion exam and failed. It's like the bar exam of fitness. I would love to trade with you but I don't think the vouchers are transferable.

I have taken a few different cert courses, some cover more than others and some DO have their own principals, with their own policies and procedures. one each test I took there were specific test questions that pertained to informantion in their books... ie: ACE requires you renew your cretification every_____ years. Again, questions specific to the sgency and it's policies, that type of stuff. not exercise physiology questions. If you google Scirion, you will find what I found, try it cause I could not find anything specifically great on it, not even really good. I'm not knocking it, I'm just not familliar with them, maybe because they have only been around since 1997, and are gaining popularity now?
