Foreman Grill People........

How long do you cook your chicken on the grill (thawed)? I have a Foreman knock off and it says 5-8min. I normally cook it for 8min (scared to death of Salmonella or any other foodborne illnesses) but then the outside is really tough and nasty. I did it for 6min today and it was much, MUCH better but I want to make sure that Im still cooking it enough. Or should I just get a meat thermometer, and if that is the case is it 180degrees when done inside? Thanks!

I agree with crmdogg
I cook them like 4 minutes. I cant eat dry chicken. Cut the thick part of one open after 3-4 minutes of cooking, if there is no more pink your good to go.

Thanks guys. Yeah I think Im just too paranoid about undercooking the chicken that I have been charcoal'ing it for the past year or so.

yeah 5-8 minutes is about how long it takes me to do it
as soon as it starts getting brown stripes it's pretty much done for me but i get a knife and fork and cut to see if the center is still pink, if it isnt i eat it otherwise another 1-3 minutes

I just tried cutting my chicken breasts into strips before I cook'em.

That rules....cut my cook time down to 3 min !
Still very juicy too! This makes it easier to cook chicken 3lbs at a time LOL.

Hehe. I bought one of those hamilton beach indoor grills and cook a 6lb CostCo bag at a time.

i have found that if you cut the chicken in pieces about as big as your thumb (sorry cant think of anything else about the same size:) ) and throw them on the stove it takes about the same time. and its MUCH MORE TENDER i think you all should try it.

What temp?
How long?

Elaborate please.

By the way....there's a "Foreman-like" indoor grill I saw on Target.com a while back that was BIGGER and you could take out the grill part and put in in the DISHWASHER !!!!!!!

Only about $50-$60 or so.

just take a knife and cut it open in the thickest part and see if you see any pinkish area. If it is solid white. It is generally done.

When cooking meat in large chunks (ie steaks, beef or fish, whole chicken breasts, etc) once done cooking, let the meat sit for 5 minutes as it continues to cook. Don't cut it cuz it'll let all the juice out & become DRY!! After the 5 minutes, cut it & if not done then cook it a little more. Cutting meat too soon after cooking will let all the juices out & dry it out big time.

Otherwise cut the chicken into strips, it cooks faster & isn't as dry.

chicken is way more tender when i cut breast into small pieces and then cook it on the stove...just move it around with a wood spoon now and then. i havent used my forman grill in months, the stove is way better imho.
