i hurt my back last thursday...i dontknow how, but after my run in the AM i felt a slight 'twinge' in my lower back.
It got progressively worse throughout the day.
I have been to physio 3 times and find it hard to sit in a chair for more than a couple hours.

so obviously gym is out o fthe question..
anyone experienced this before? how did it get better?

also how was the time off from the gym? Were your results hindered when you got back to it?

In terms of eating/diet its unbelieveable how my appetite has decreased..i have to remind myself to have dinner! I cant remember the last time that happened.
Should i stick to having the same amount of protein/carbs/fat as i usually do...just smaller portions? And i guess eating before bed is not necessary anymore since i wont be exercising on an empty stomach...am I correct in saying this?

Some advice would be appreciated! I feel so shit not going to the gym...its killling me

I don't know if you remember me pulling my back deadlifting a few months back. I started out figuring out how to walk again for a few days. Then I started doing good mornings with a jumpstretch band. Eventually I increased to the safetly squat bar, and yesterday, I did good mornings from a bent over starting position @ 3 for 199 pounds. I have been doing goodmornings with the bands daily since a week after the injury, and my lower back is SO much stronger than it used to be. I'm deadlifting more than I was before, and my squat has gone up...lower back never hurts anymore.

yes i do remember!
so did you rest for a couple days then get into the walking?
i tried walking 30mins in the last 2 days, i think it may be too soon.
so when was it that you went back to lifting again?
im fearing a flabby body!!! all my good work down the drain:(

I find digging over the garden helped me tremendously to recover from a slipped disc in my lower back. It's sorta like doing good mornings with your legs bent some of the time! Whatever you do, please don't just 'rest' until it gets better. You need active recovery more than ever for back muscle injuries. Use it or lose it. BTW I've recently read a meta analysis of physio treatment for lower back pain, and they found that physio basically made no difference to recovery time or function, and in some cases conservative physio treatment delayed recovery. Take charge of your own back pain. Good luck.

Heh heh heh...lemme see, 74 cortizone shots, 4 epidurals, and 2 back surgeries....walk, walk, walk...take your time...all the good advice is on this thread for you...it takes time my friend....

It didn't get me down, don't let it get you down either...

Luck to you

Like I said 221 or else....nice work today. I think you were good for another 10lbs or so...if your back wasnt acting up. Next time we cycle those in I am sure you will blow that record out of the water.

back pain....shhheees..tell me about it. my SI joint pops out all the time...causes leg numbness...back pain...and if i let it go to long it travels up my back and causes arm numbness...
I have learned to notice when it is slipping and start iceing it right away...streching and it will usually go back into place by it's self...however....if i put it off..or it wont go back im offf to the chiro.

more than a week later...
still feel a slight twinge when i wake up, and i cant sit for long periods without havin gto sit w a hot-waterbottle against my bak for a while after.
it seems the most helpful thing was going to the chiro..she cracked my back, allowing for movememnt of the spine.
Anyway...im still dreaming of returning to gym...

until then..
