Do you measure your food BEFORE or AFTER you cook it?

I just went out and bought digital scales... Tonight I cooked top round steak.. BEFORE i put it on the grill 7.75 ounces, and after it was 5.75 ounces.. There was a 2 ounce discrepancy... So when do you measure your food?? And when should i measure and put it in to fitday, before or after?? I'm looking for the most accurate measure of calories... Thanks.

It sucks I know, I cook 250 gram of chicken then after its cooked Its less than 200.
But Im pretty sure most of this is water evaporating, so should be no calories lost.
Id put on Fitday pre-cooked weight

Use precooked weight -- a grilled chicken breast has nearly 35g of protein per 100g, fitday and other similar applications will calculate chicken as having 24g/100g, which is uncooked amount

yea, the nutrition facts on foods are all precooked, although you can find the facts for cooked foods rather easily as well..

after a while you will be able to eye up meats pretty easily without even weighing

Before...

just pick a way and stick to it.

I hate putting uncooked meat on my scale...so i always do cooked...but make sure that you know that and stick to it when tracking your food

If you are dieting, you would be taking in too many calories.

This is a general rule of thumb I have found from weighing food for AGES

100 g chicken raw = 65-70 g cooked

100 g beef raw = 50 g cooked

A lot of veg weighs the same amount before and after steaming, and potatoes (baby new ones) weigh the same after boiling.

Most tuna is always pre-cooked anyway.

I haven't worked out fresh tuna steaks yet
