Diet tips while traveling

I am taking two conference trips in the next few weeks and I would like your suggestions on eating clean and often enough while traveling.

Breakfast is my biggest challange. I love my oats and eggs at home and I can't think of a satisfiying breakfast while on the road.
I don't usaually allow enough time to go the a sit down breakfast in the morning and I find it difficult to resist eating too many carbs when I do, so I usually avoid going to a resturant all together.

kronk is on the road often...he takes ready to drink shakes and bars...then if he HAS to eat out..he simply makes sure that he gets broiled chicken, with no sides except some steamed broc or something like that...

with confrences it is tough, so the RTD's and bars will help.

If you can arrange it, try to get into a hotel/motel that has a fridge & microwave in the room. Then just hit a local grocery store for stuff. I usually pack my first day's meals with me and then reuse the containers to eat out of as the trip goes. I'll bring my own plastic silverware. I also measure out daily servings of oatmeal and protein mix and then bring protein shakers and I've even traveled w/ my Brita water filter water pitcher so I dont' have to mix my stuff w/ tap water. And of course extra bars just in case. Also sometimes you can get food from delis at the local grocery store that you can eat instead of restaurant food or conference coffee & donuts.

What about when staying with other people who want to cook for you? I have just had to tell them I only eat certain things and don't want to offend them, but I brought my own food. Do other do this as well or do you have any other suggestions?

I just had to spend a week in a training centre, with, luckily, 2 trips home for a few hours (long enough to cook). What I did was: on Sunday I made 36 oatmeal/eggwhite pancakes and froze them. Those covered most of my Meal 2's & 4's, and a couple of breakfasts. Then I made a few enormous salads, and several tupperwares of pasta with tomato sauce. That all covered the first few days, then I did the pasta and salad making thing again when I went home those couple of times.

There was a fridge at the centre, so I was able to do that. If I had a car and a deep freeze, I would have just made all my meals and taken them along, but I only have an ice-box and use the train ...

If you don't mind feeling a bit hungry, baked potatoes with protein shakes or bars work well, too. Or boiled eggs ...

For visiting people or explaining my eating habits, I've found that people actually accept weird bodybuilding food far more easily than they accept vegetarianism. Things have become EASIER for me, almost, since starting this way of eating. Perhaps because it has a clearly defined purpose or reason, rather than just being a principle ....

when I'm in conference days... specially those where everyone is business causal... I get a protein shake prepared with 1 or 2 portions of what I consume, protein bars and get a tupperware with grilled chicken, potatos and veggies so that I can eat that during a break.

I find the biggest challenge during travel/work/conferences is managing to eat as often as we need to. Most people you're with eat one HUGE fatty lunch and are set till dinner and I'm trying to have my pre-made meals every 3 hours.

What do you do about that??

btw- anyone got a recipe for oatmeal/eggwhite pancakes?? ...sounds really good & convenient!

Here's the oatmeal/eggwhite pancakes from the muscle food board:

1/2 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup cottage cheese
5 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
cinnamon to taste
splenda

Mix together in blender

Makes 4 medium pancakes

335 calories, 36 g. protein, 32 g. carbs, 4.5 g. fat

Thank you for this thread and that recipe! I am wondering... aren't RTDs and bars full of sugars?? How many a day is okay and for how long? Man, I'm gone for a month! I am hoping to get to a gym frequently. Does anybody have a good recipe for a bar?:chomp:
