ok, now bbing is pretty much my life. all my time, energy, etc is spent improving (eating, training, etc). the wrestling program in our school district wins state almost every year. we're also ranked nationally about every other year. the coach (has been coaching many many years) talked to me today. turns out our heavyweight spot needs to be filled or we're really going to do bad this year. he's being very nice and generous. i could even lift at school without being hassled by other coaches.

thing is, i think all that cardio will hinder gains, especially considering i can barely eat enough just lifting and no other activities. remember, bbing is basically my life.

i dont think there would be a way to compromise bbing to wrestle. what do you think?

personally I think it would be worth it to wrestle for a nationally ranked team, but if you don't wnt to then don't, but then again, what kind of equipment does your school have? you could stop bulking for right now, and cut, so you won't have to cut more down the road

If I was in your shoes. . . .I would do it!!! I wrestled in high school and I really enjoyed it. However, it is one of the most difficult sports. All I can say is that you will burn calories, and will sweat at least 2 to 3lbs of water during practice. If you are affraid of hard work, sweat, possible injuries, and strenuous practice. . .then this is not the sport for you.

You have plenty of time to bodybuild. Try something new. Learn the basic techniques . . . .double legs, single legs, cradles, etc.

thing is, i've wrestled most of my school years.. i think i hated it most of the time.

i dont think im going to go to college, maybe a tech school, so i dont need to worry about what looks good on an application.

i'm not afraid of hard work. i bust my ass every day that i lift and i'm extremely dedicated to bbing. that's why i think i couldnt compromise this..

i dont know.

by the way, i made a frickin spelling error in the title of the thread. lol, supposed to read: 'dilemna'

From personal experience, I had a lot of fun being on the state championship xc team, that holds the record for best score ever at the state meet, even though i didn't run at that meet;)

Hey Eugenius, what is the deal with link you have. It scared the crap out of me. It was long as hell too.

Jeremys, I had the same problem actually. I did not wrestle because I wanted to lift weights. I had football season before however, so I was quite exhausted from that. I do wish that I would have wrestled do. It is a great sport for teaching mental toughness. It is really up to you though and what means more to you. You may want to atleast give a try and go to a few practices and see how you like it.

haha, yeah, i dont know. i guess every time i read a post in this thread i'm hoping somebody will convince me to stick with bbing. i dont know why, probably jsut because thats what i want to do

btw, this coach hinted at steroid use during our talk. of course i have gained 75 lbs since he saw me last (like 2 years ago) so i look a lot bigger, even though half is probably fat. he hinted a couple times. i think he thinks he's on to something. lol

thats what i did last year. i tried it for a couple practices but then lifted and ate again.

I believe you have already made your decision. There was no need to post.

sorry, guess i was just hoping for somebody to tell me that it could work out both ways. but i kinda guessed it wouldnt work that way..

ska, i quit because i knew bbing and wrestling didnt mix, unless i planned on doing some extreme cutting

OK here goes... If your school will be recognized and you have a champ at a scholarship, then it`s worth it. I knew someone that had a full scholarship for wrestling. That could happen to you. I know that`s not in your plans but if it`s paid for it might change your mind= free college education.

#2 If you`ve been working out for years and will workout/bodybuild for many years to come, then you`d be surprised at how getting "ripped" and losing weight and lots of cardio (from wrestling) would do for your physique in the long run. Wrestlers are VERY fit people and if it does`nt work for you, getting back to lifting weights will be easy. Your body will be better prepared.
AND IF IT DOES WORKOUT FOR YOU. YOU WILL HAVE A FREE COLLEGE EDUCATION.

Go with whatever gets you more fired up. Your heart will let you know.

I never made good gains while I was fighting. I was doing cardio everyday. Put that together with my screaming fast metabolism and I was not growing much at all. But fighting made me happier than lifting at the time.

Dude I wrestled 189's my senior year in highschool, and was probably in the best shape of my life. I also was very much into bodybuilding at the time, and lifted weights even after intense wrestling practices. I had decent size for my weight, and was more cut then I have ever been. I never had more fun then I did that year of wrestling. It is an amazing sport, and something I would do all over again if I had the chance. I know this isnt what you want to hear, but GO FOR IT! You have so much time to focus on bodybuilding man, you are 15!!!! Enjoy the sport, get in awesome shape and then continue bodybuilding when the season is over. Good luck.

I'm not sure if someone else mentioned this... but maybe you should remember something here. You are 15 years old dude. If you wrestle while in HS, you aren't going to drop shitloads of weight... and after a few years (turn 18) then you can totally blow up.

Not to mention, you'll have experienced wrestling on a nationally ranked team.

At 15, it's tough for anyone to know what their life is. If you are truly this devoted to bbing, then you'll know that at age 15-18 are not the formative years in your strength and bodybuilding training...

Just think about it. :)

i think im gonna wrestle. i talk to the coach this morning.

im gonna need a nice plan lifting-wise and diet-wise to keep almost all my gains. i know im going to lose size and strength, i just wanna keep it all. call me greedy

I think this is a good call. Wrestling may teach a lot about your body too, which can help with lifting in the long run. Also, if you do keep lifting during the season, you will have to modify your routine and do more of a maintance program. Good Luck.

day 1

practice w/out doing endurance for over 2 years=hell

we ran for 15 minutes. the first 10 minutes was fine. the last 5 minutes was hell. i almost puked the last lap.

went in, discovered i cant finish takedowns or do anything really because my lower back is really tender and really weak.

after sweating for about half an hour, i went and got weighed in. 259 after pissing and sweating.

go back in, drill some more. i forgot damn near everything. even most of the basics.

after practice, my back hurt so bad i couldnt stand up straight. it's very tender right now, even sitting in a chair. this shit sucks. i hope it holds out the whole season. if something down in my back tears/strains/whatever again, i dont know what i'll do. i have to stay with this though

total protein intake today: 135g. i got a lot of carbs though. i have a headache and i have to lay on the floor now, hopefully to take some pressure out of there....

i will probably lose quite a bit of mass and keep some fat throughout the season. joy

He he he. . .I remember those days!!! Drills served as the foundation of training. We also ran like hell!! It was common to lose 2 to 3 pounds per practice.

To me, it doesn't sound like you are interested at all. What you went through will happen everday for the next 4 months. Remember, you are training for both tournaments and duals, so you had better be in shape. Your technical skills must be sharp! If you are out of shape and to not give 110 percent in practice. . .you will become victim of the FALL or TECH FALL. You do not want this to happen in front of a crowd in your high school gym.

I don't care what anyone says. . . .wrestling is much more difficult than bodybuilding period!! Any fool can pick up a weight move it through a motion, eat like a hog, and sleep half of the day!! Wrestling on the other hand requires mental toughness, extreme conditioning, and drive. Overall, there are far less wrestlers than bodybuilders.

You need to think about what you really want. Your coach is willing to invest time in you and train you to become a better athlete/person. If you are unwilling to put forth the effort, then you are wasting your coachs and your time.

This is my .02 cents. . . make up your mind. Good luck!

i agree with you. this is a great sport if you like doing it.

i dont want to let people down, but i have to do whats best for me. if something snaps again in my back, i cant wrestle at all OR lift OR do anything else for a long time. i cant let that happen again.

i'll gauge everything on if i can get out of bed tomorrow and/or walk. i cant be popping a bunch of aspirin and not be able to sit down every day

too late :(

wrestling is not for people who aren't solely dedicated to it

yeah, i dont think we really started. all we did that one day was a piss test and bf% test most of the time

yeah, my back feels really fucked up now. im gonna get somebody to take me to a chiro within the week
