Decline Barbell Presses

Hey guys,

I tried something a little different tonight. As most of you know, I am a huge believer in sticking with incline presses to develop size and strength in the chest. Just tonight I decided to totally switch my chest program by incorporating decline barbell presses. I have not performed this exercise in 3 years. I performed these for a couple of years and my strength and power sky-rocketed. I eventually forgot about the exercise and migrated to inclines. Tonight, I perfomed declines and I was shattered!!! My strength was significantly lower than it was 3 years ago!! The movement felt good, but my form felt a little shaky since I haven't performed them in years. I felt like I was hoisting a truck over my face.

What should I do to regain my strength on these? Should I work with the movement for a while? I had to train light to get the feel once again? Should I use cycle training (5x10,4x8, 3x6)? Any input would greatly be appreciated.

I would work with the movement in all sorts of rep ranges, just dont go too heavy until you get more comfortable with it.

Maybe you just proved to yourself that variation is the key...

I think you are right. I feel like I am one of those trainers that must consistently work with a movement to become stronger. I think if I work with this for a while, I will eventually become really strong on these once again.
