everyone needs to vary their diet here it seems.

eat more eggs and lean meats (chicken, steak, turkey).

I HATE tuna, i don't eat that anymore and when i did... it was 3 cans / week...max.

Yup, I have been trying to spice it up so I bought some canned turkey and chicken instead, my log smells like tuna already LOL. You learn something new everyday, did not know that about the tuna! Still been trying to get a hold of some bison but I can't find any in the stores.

i would just like to thank everyone here for ruining my day....

hey bunny....i pretty much eat tuna from the can everyday of my life...should i not be doing this?
i have covered that in a previous thread but i will ease your mind my friend
the tuna that is used for canning is a smaller fish than the tuna consumed fresh
the larger the fish the more prone it is to having heavier concentrations of mercury
so eating lots of canned tuna is not bad for you just watch the sodium
try also canned salmon esp sockeye and canned mackerels, sardines and herrings
with fresh fish make sure you cut out the blood line where it is heaviest concentration
the blood line is the darkest almost brown black part of the fish
kinda bitter anyway

I would agree with this. Tuna tend be be very old when they get caught. having many years of injesting pollutants. then processed and put into cans where they sit on the shelf for X months/years.

if possible, buy fresh fish. Im lucky enough to live on the west coast. not only are the stores packed with fresh seafoods, but many of my friends are fishing guides. Fresh salmon has to be one of the best foods out there.

as far as nutrient content... how is salmon vs tuna vs other seafoods (prawns, crab etc)?
actually canned tuna is not the same as the tuna you buy fresh
much different and less mercury by far
yes do consume fresh fish but trim it as i stated in my last post cut out the blood line
shrimp are the best of the shellfish lo fat hi protien and eats mainly plankton
i rarely eat crab or lobsters since they are savangers and eat anything
clams, mussels, cockels and oysters i don't eat much of since they are basically filters
when i do i make sure they come from pristine waters such as off PEI or new zealand
but i will never pass up abalone

i miss the west coast ALOT
i miss my fraiser river and bristol bay wild caught salmon mostly

belay your depression about tuna
canned tuna is safe
it was FRESH TUNA, swordfish and marlin she was consuming
she had FRESH tuna daily
again the mercury levels in canned tuna is almost nil

that is why I have such a nice silver glow!

I eat tuna everyday, oops, this is good to know!
smarten up peeps
canned tuna are actually from tongol and albacore tunas
much smaller fishes than yellowfin (ahi) or bluefin or bigeye tunas sold as fresh tuna

my basic gizt was change your diet
do not eat the same things all the time
and i was not really dissing tuna but the rice cakes and processed foods
read your labels
be more concerned about what you eat and buy
and once or twice spurging and having something you love will not kill you either
i am chef by trade and trained food science researcher

so listen up
