deadlifts?

LETHAL BURN

New member
what is so anabolic about deadlifts? what part of the back do deadlifs work out? every tim i do them im hurting for at least 3-4 days. i feel them in my lower back but never my upper back...

The reason deads are so anabolic is because the work so much of your body and system wide work usually triggers a larger response than isolation work. Some guys do sort of a half shrug or at least pull shoulders back at the top of the dead to further work thier upper back.

I've done deadlifts for a long time. The best for bodybuilding purposes in my opinion are smith machine deadlifts. I go down to lower shin level and really concentrate on keeping the low back arched (and most active). At the top, bring your shoulders all the way back and squeeze. This exercise hits the WHOLE back, traps, and some quad and hamstring.
This is one of the best exercises for packing on the lbs.
Too bad I hurt my back doing squats yesterday and won't be able to do them this week.

Being such a big compound movement they immediately kick off a big supply of endorphines around the body. Be sure to do the correctly by looking ahead and arching the back up pushing the stomach forwards and the hips back. That will ensure the lumbar region doesn't get damaged. If you go heavy, wear a good belt.

IMO, one of the best excercises for overall mass. Just watch how Ronnie C does em in his latest video - phenominal.

I agree, they are by far my favorite exercise. I used to do shrugs for my traps and never got anywhere. Started doing deads and both my upper and mid traps absolutely blew-up!!!

I hate deads:mad:

But for all the reasons above, they must be done, just like squats.....

Try changing your reps/sets/weight mix around until you feel like your doing some good.

Where u go to get one of those video's?

I bought mine (signed) from the man himself at the Olympia. I know they are for sale in some of the bb mags, I think on Ronnie's website or you could get in touch with Brian Dobson at Metroflex gym where it was filmed and Ronnie trains. They have a website too. One of the best training vids I have ever seen - very motivating.
