dairy while cutting?

I read this somewhere on the other message boards but couldnt find it. Anyways, my question is....Should a person eat dairy products at all while cutting? Isn't eggs considered dairy? If so, that rules out some protein powder doesnt it because it has egg powder right? any tips would be appreciated!!

eggs are not diary. milk products are dairy, and no - whey protein doesn't count.

it depends on the person. I don't have any problems with dairy. others do.

I think for the most part, dairy is restricted to milk and cheese products. Whey is a by-product of milk, but I do not believe it has the contents in other dairy products that cause the bloating.

Eggs are not dairy because eggs come from a chicken, not a cow.

I believe it has to do with the notion that dairy 'smooths you over'. I can't say I buy that notion as no one has ever explained to me the mechanism that it would occur through.

I consume large amounts of fat free milk and dry cottage cheese while cutting and manage to dice up fairly well.

There is scientific evidence to back this up. I don't have the articles, but they say dairy aids in fat loss.

Lifterforlife posted up evidence that it all came about from the 'calcium and fatloss' concept, which he showed was wrong with documented evidence. I certainly do have an open mind and am willing to hear out any backed up claims.

unless you're cutting down for a competition, I wouldn't stress about the dairy. my personal opinion is that some people are sensitive to dairy and some are not. if you're not, then don't worry. Fat free dairy is a good source of simple carbs before & after a workout, and a good source of protein as well.

Bingo! As calories become a premium, as competition dieting does, dairy becomes calories that can be labled a luxury at this time, and will not assist the low bodyfats needed for competition.

In other words, with calories being extremely low, every calorie must "count". So, lean proteins are much more desirable as "needed" calories at this time.

my DAILY dairy consumption

1.5 cups w/ breakfast(whey also)
1cup w/ Cereal if i have cereal
1.5 cups prebed w/ whey + Fishoil.

Havnt had a problem, But some others might.

Got Milk?

Again, dairy is fine depending on how low in bodyfat you want to go. To get to competition levels, I personally or anyone I know or competed with does not take in milk at the later dates toward contest.

Doing a "cutting" diet is a huge difference from contest prep. :)
