Cutting Diet Help

Stats...
30
5"8
175lbs
B.F. Around 15 %

Not sure is this is a good mix or not.

Meal 1:
MRP Shake (contains myoplex or other, 6 strawberries, 2 tbs of ANPB, creatine)

Meal 2:
6 eggs (4whites, 2 whole)
1/2 to 1 cup of oats

Meal 3:
Flank Steak
Sweet potato or brown rice

Meal 4:
Chicken or Lean Ground Beef
1 cup broccoli

Meal 5:
Tilapia
1 cup broccoli or brussel sprouts

Meal 6:
Usually some celery with ANPB

I drink about a gallon of water a day. Any ideas on how I might tweak this. I like the shake in the morning. I can't eat when I wake up. Stomach issues...so the shake helps.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
JD

I like it... minus the berries in the morning shake... keep the carbs out of that first meal, you'll see better results. Which is your postworkout meal?

I love the ingredients of your diet, you need to put it into fitday so you know if you're eating enough or these foods or too much of these foods. you need to know how much chicken, how much beef, how much anpb you ar eating.

And please note there is a huge difference between beef and chicken and any other form of meat... when you eat red meat you're eating a huge portion of your daily fat intake with that meat...whereas with tilapia... it's got very few calories almost all of which are protein. chicken is similar to tilapia, but more calories per ounce, etc.

Good base, you need to take this to the next level and pay attention to detail, imo.

I agree on the chicken / ground beef issue.

Besides, you already are having steak, you shouldn't go back for ground beef. I usually limit myself to one serving of red meat, if any. A lot of people, bulkers especially, will disagree with me, but I don't think red meat is a very good source for protein, against the risks.

The cons of red meat is that it sits in your colon much longer than chicken and enlarges your prostate. There's also concern as to wether red meat, (in today's lifestyle, with all of our extra chemicals,) causes cancer, though nothing's been proven. Since I think we can agree that most dieters & body builders care for good health, I don't see why we continue to run the risks.

But I'll admit a hamburger is one of my favorite things.

Explain to me the negativity of 6 strawberries in the FIRST meal of the day, please.

How so? In my opinion you should start the day with carbs and eat less throughout the day. Protein in every meal of course. Is there something about the berries? I usually eat oatmeal and eggs in the morning.

Sure... but only because I like you :). First of all, we're talking about tweaks here, getting the most bang for the buck. 6 berries in your first meal of the day will not kill you. Some people advocate early morning carbs, I don't seek to invalidate that school of thought. Strawberries vary in size... 6 medium-large strawberries could easily be 10-15 moderate g.i. carbs. Will that kill you? No. Would it be better off to delay these carbs a little bit to maximize morning fat burning and growth hormone release on a cut? There is a good chance yes.

The reasoning behind this?

I will quote from the recent Anafit newsletter that touched on staying away from early morning and late night carbs via the Anafit diet (which in my experience has been very effective):

"No carbohydrates before noon and none after 6p.m. If carbohydrates are eaten at night, they interfere with Growth Hormone release. GH is the hormone that keeps us young, lean and muscular. In the presence of carbohydrates at night it doesn't get released like it should. If we only eat sugar during the six-hour window, we have a better chance of burning the sugar off during the day."

Further... and most importantly (I probably should have put this as point one since it a bit more of a time tested diet principle), mixing of carbs and fat is generally a no-no. ANPB and medium-high g.i. carbs like fruits is a pretty extreme carb/fat combo. Insulin can play mean tricks. The berries are gonna spike the insulin, and then both the fat and the carbohydrates will be stored as fat. And yeah it's only 6 berries, but if it's only 6 berries, why bother tempting an insulin spike that could lead to storage of the anpb as over a couple berries?

That's the line of thinking there, feel free to disagree, there are so many different nutrition schools of thought, whatever works for the individual is king, imo.

good info, makes since. can you send me a link to that newsletter, sound interesting

If you arent supposed to have any carbs before noon and none after 6, what is an option for breakfast? I also have oats mixed with ANPB and eggs in the morning, and my supper is usually around 8pm where I like to have a good supply of both carbs and protein. Anyone got any other ideas to grab some cutting calories without the carbs?

You can't get caught up in times. I have carbs at midnight because I workout at 10pm and repairing my muscle is my priority. The idea is really not until 4 hours after waking, and not after 4 hours before bed...

Eggs themselves, or eggs and anpb is a good breakfast cutting combo (protein + fat), if you love morning carbs, keep them low g.i. and try to prevent mixing with fat. Oats are good with egg whites or a whey or casein shake (protein + carbs).

And above all remember different things work for different people... and calories in vs. calories out is the priority. If you're taking in less than your burning, you will be losing fat. Will it be optimal and efficient (and does it matter?)? You gotta figure that part out.
