I think Dan Duchaine used to carb up only with complex carbs.
Does someone here already did the same? if so how was it? for how long did u carb up? Thanks!

Never tried it. I always start by eating low gi early in the day and go towards a higher gi later in the day on a carb up for 1 day

Are you sure that you don't have that backwards? Your body tolerate high gl (simple) carbs better in the morning. It seems like you would want to take in the hi gl carbs early when there is the best chance that they will be used throught the course of the day and not stored as fat.

To the original question: I think your carb up phase would also depend on your depletion phase. How do you deplete?

some peoples bodies respond differently. I always look like shit if I load w/ hi gi carbs. My body does NOT respond well to sugars and as a result, I get too puffy and hold too much water. Even if my net carb intake is the same, I look better carb loading throughout the day w/ oatmeal. I would still drink a few glasses of wine b4 comp though. I really feel that I look better w/ some alcohol in me (and its' not just beer goggles) vascularity def increases.

You're right, everyone is different. I'm with you on that red wine thing. Helps the veins and the nerves. It's part of my pre-show routine from now on.

plus you get some alcohol confidence in there too, it will definitely help with your attitude. The last thing judges want to see is nervous/pensive looks on your face. They want confident smiles all around
