Carb Depletion

So On July 8 and 9 I have an ultimate frisbee tournament down at the beach in CHicago. I am obviously tryng to get in the best shape as possible since Id like to take my shirt off. I plan on trainign super intense the next week and then the week before the tourney doing a carb and water depletion thingy, I have the specifics in a magazine. My question is by doing this will i a.) lose a lot of energy and not be as physically fit as i normally would be for the tournament and b.) when doing the carb depletion should I train and do cardio as intensely as when im not depleting? THanks for all help and hope ya guys and gals get what im trying to say!!!

you will feel like you were run over by a truck. then, the truck having backed over you and run over you again, decided to park on your forehead.

There are few more taxing, emotionally and physically, things you can do yourself than go through a real deplete. In order for this to be effective on a visual level even in the slightest, you need to be dangerously dehydrated on the day of your 'event' and if you are planning to compete, outside in 90+ degree heat for two days in an extremely vigorous sport: you might die. As in dead.

Recomendation in the strongest words possible? DONT DO THIS.

Enjoy the tournament. Next time you have a target date where you want to 'look' in shape? BE in shape and you wont have to worry about half measures that might threaten accute renal failure and heart attack or stroke.

Plan. Research. Plan more. repeat.

Getting 'fit' happens over the course of years, not two weeks.

Ghede is right.

Carb depletion for competitions means more than just reducing carbs. It is done for short periods of time followed by carb loads. During carb depletion your energy levels will drop a lot and training will be very hard physically and emotionally.

If not done adequately you could end up loosing muscle and looking skinny instead of muscular.

well thanks for the advice. I know that being fit doesnt happen in two weeks thats why ive been changing my lifestyle, but I was just seeing what could be done for the toureny. Thanks for all the advice!!!!

Further I would be concerned about a water depletion prior to an active event like that unless you are sitting on the ground as a spectator and not moving. The last thing you want to experience is dehydration - and trust me - if you've never done a water depletion, you will find yourself staring at your 25 oz bottle of water for the day and all of a sudden have a real sense of what its like to be lost in the desert. And of course the potential for cramps and all that. If you are going to be outside in the heat, it all gets that much worse.

I'm going to a two day event at the beach, and was wondering the same sort of thing.. I won't water depleat... but are there any safe methods of looking better? I heard drinking a glass of red wine will make you more vascular, if you are already in the single digits, and something about dandillion root tea? lol
