Question:

I was reading a calculation where you multiply your weight into Kg then height into cm, etc add it all together with another number (655?) then multiply by X depending on how active you are to get cals needed per day to maintain your weight. (like 1.55 for moderately active)

Well, based on my current weight, I came up with 2,449 cals per day to maintain. So, if I have any less than that # I guess I'd lose weight?? Is that formula even accurate??

Can you post the equation or the ref it comes from? Did you convert all your units correctly?

Here's the calculation:
1. Determine your weight in kg by dividing your weight in lbs by 2.2
(145/2.2 = 65.91)

2. Determine your height in centimeters by multiplying your height in inches by 2.54.
(5'4" = 64 x 2.54 = 162.56)

3. Complete the following equation:
655 + [9.6 x weight in kg] + [1.8 x height in cm] - [4.7 - age in years] = X

655 + 632.736 + 292.608 - 164.5 = 1415.844

4. Multiply X by one of the following activity factors:
Sedentary: 1.2
Slightly active: 1.375
Moderately active (moderate exercise 3-5 days/week): 1.55
Very active (strenuous exercise 6-7 days/week): 1.725

I think I'm somewhere between moderate & very active.....

So -- 1415.844 x 1.55 = 2194.5582 for moderate; 2442.3309 for very active

I think I messed up last nite..... but still, is this equation remotely accurate?? I would assume that if I'm below either of the above calories for the day, I'd lose weight??

arent you ~120??

then 15x120 = approx main.

Nope, 145 in the am..... but I don't "look" 145, so to speak....

The calculation is supposed to be "maintenance" and was wondering what the validity the formula had as opposed to the weight x 12, 13, etc....

typicall womens bmr:

weight in kg times 0.9 times 12.......

So, for me that's 711 -- what does that mean?

my fault...its times 24

so, 1400 cals is what you would burn lying at rest all day.......

how does that take into account lean body mass??? The # of maintance cals it gives you could be too little depending on how muscular you are.

it doesnt - thus the "typical" note
