Birth Control and BODYBUILDING help needed

Hi Everyone!

I am training with weights with goal to compete in Figure Fitness within a year. I supplement naturally (no steroids, etc.). I am in a dilemma though as I am looking for birth control options, which WON'T make me gain weight/fat and get emotional/moody. I have just recently tried Ortho-Tricyclen Lo; only for about one week as I felt that it changed me too much... I got too emotional and had spotting without end.

I know that I don't want to ingest hormones into me, unless they will make me gain lean muscle (not fat!). I heard that there is a BC pill that actually helps to gain muscle... Anyone know anything about this?

Another thing, I was considering IUD, but I am only 20 and I have never had kids... My gynocologist does not recommend it due to fear of puncturing my uterus during insertion.

I would appreciate all sort of advice on birth control which will not impede my body building goals. Brands, anecdotal stories, etc.

Thank you!

Never heard of BC adding only hindering muscle gains.

You need a new gyno if they told you that! I went for a I consultantion on an IUD was told that there is no sides with the exception of it slipping out.

I have not had children either and have a IUD. Depending on who you talk to you get different answers when it comes to the IUD.
Why don't you do some research on IUD's yourself and if you want one, just find a doctor that will help you.
I have not had any problems with my IUD and for me it is much better than BC pills.

Boy if that was the case we all would be on THAT pill! You need to go with out the hormones.....

I have just started using the Nuva ring. It has a lower dosage of hormones. I have had some spotting so far but I am giving my body time to adjust. I am going on my 2nd month with it and have not gained any additional fat.

Starting a new form of BCP will take a few months to adjust to. It might take as much as 6 months for your hormone levels to stabilize. In this time period, you will get spotting, moodiness, etc. You have to give ANY BCP more than 1 week to let your body get used to it. Going on and off various forms for BCP will cause more harm than good. Find a pill, stick with it for 3 months and go from there.

I used Loestrin Fe 1/20 with good success. It was a low dose, mono-phasic pill.

Thanks for all that input ;-)

I think I am done with hormones... I have been searching the posts on here and I have read too many horror stories of gaining fat, etc. I am so serious about my fitness that I rather not have sex or to use a condom in order to more easily reach my goals.

Maybe IUD... I'll have to do more research ;-)
