bench contest help

hey to make a long story short I am doing a bench contest tomorrow for 500 bucks. It is between me and this guy who I do not like. I am doing the contest just to show him I am stronger. Here is the thing: i am coming off surgery
-have not done flat bench in almost a year
-been dieting with low carbs-losing strength

here is what I want to know. Tommorrow in the a.m I am going to the gym to try a heavy double. I will practice driving with my legs.Then I will rest all day. I am going to carb up till about two hours before the contest. I am going to take ephadrine and clen to get me hyped. I have a lot to lose because a lot of people are going to be there. Right now i can get 315 for 4 on the incline. should 385 be a go? also should i wear a thick shirt and maybe tie a towel under it. there are no rules it seems. form is not an issue. any tips and/or input about diet, training, supps etc.. would be great. thanx guys,luke

Put on a bench shirt, first of all. Don't try a heavy double in the morning, just warm up, then go for it.

If you can hit 315 for 4 on incline you should be able to do 385 raw. I am assuming you are going raw. This in my opinion is a good way to tear up your pecs and shoulders especially since you are not used to heavy singles, but I am sure you are going forward anyway.

that said, you are probably best off, by using as severe of an arch as possible, keep your upper back pinched together by trying to touch your shoulder blades together, move the bar as fast as possible, try and tear the bar in half by pulling your hands apart from one another.

As for the uppers before lifting, I used to do all that, but now, I don't even use smelling salts. I just stay focused and inwardly intense. No yelling or jumping around for me. If I have to do that stuff, I am trying to convince myself I can get the lift, instead of concentrating on the form necessary so that I will KNOW I will get the lift.

Well i wouldnt do the double in the morning. That is for sure. Wrap your wrists tight, get good and warmedup. No rules wear your elbow sleeves if you got em. They dont aid the lift very much but the keep your muscles warmed once the getthere. And start kinda light something you can 2 or 3 times. Then let him go. Then you do a hair more. Then let hijm go again. Then by the way he comes up with it, do enough to shut it down right there. Then on his 3rd he will miss then you go big! Dont try to alter your style there. That will mess you up. So remeber you go first. Pay attention tohow hard he struggles. If he barely hits 340 or so on attempt 1 to beat your say 325, go 360 on your second and shut em down. Powerlifting when your truly going head to head with someone equal strength is a numbers game. BUt you have to pay attention. Good luck. When you win buy a bench shirt!
 
thanx guys the advice means alot to me. hopefully i can make you guys proud. i went this a.m and got 405 raw. very slow rep but locked it out. i took an illegal wide grip. never done this before. i am going to have some dried fruit for energy and then leave. thanx again guys,luke
 
damn what an experience! i got to the bar and signed up. The contest started early. about 10 people showed up to cheer me on-lots of pressure. The first dude went and used horrible form and got 405. Keep in mind the lights were so bright you could barley see the bar. It was so hot i was dripping. The bench was a peice of shit also. I opended with two plates for a double. Then did 315 for a single. It went up so easy i could have repped it for 10. Then my buddy saysgo to 415. Well by this point i was not warmed up and felt tired from benching in the morning and training chest two earlier. I missed me attempt. I felt like shit. Some older dude won with 425. he had very thick elbow supports which made his lock out much easier. The spotter told me i was so close. if i could have got it up another cm i would have locked it out. i did not bounce the bar off my chest and i kept my ass on the bench. everyone else used horrible form. I need to work on my form and tailer it to powerlifting. i do not know how to drive with my legs either. this whole experience makes me want to start doing bench comps. all the guys were very cool. good learning experience. time to start researching west side i think. anyways sorry guys i bombed but thanx for the help,luke
 
you know at first i though this post was a frigging joke. it was like someone asking smart-ass questions for a laugh. imagine my surprise when i found that you were really serious. let me analyze your behavior as though i were really taking you seriously....

did you really think that benching earlier in the morniing would get you 'prepared' for the meet? did you NOT listen to the nice people on the board who told you NOT to do this?

why didnt you add some real methamphetamine to the mix to really get you psyched? shit, take some heroin while you are at it so you can't feel the pain of your area that was repaired by surgery.

shit.... a 315 incline is MUCH harder than a flat bench. EVERYONE knows that.... you should have tried for 500. [sarcasm here]

Well you sure don't have your common sense to lose. It also appears you don't have any friends to lose either because they wouldn't have let you enter this event.

why dont you put 3 shirts on, tennis balls under your triceps to bounce off of, a board or 5 under you ass to help you with your arch.

where the hell was this meet?? next time, please let me know and i will fly there and collect my 500 from a bunch of idiots.
 
o.k bro sorry to have upset you so much. i can't undertand why you would take the time to type up such a long answer if my post was so stupid to you. i did the contest for fun.it was at a local bar. i only found out about it last night. it was not a meet. simply a local contest. sorry bro if taking eca to give me extra energy is childish to you. this is what the product is meant for. i benched in the morning because no one had responded to my thread untill 6 pm tonight. a lot to lose-well this statement might have been over done. regardless your negitivity makes me laugh. i thought this board was a botherhood. my questions may have been stupid to you but legit to me. anyways thanx for the people who helped me and to irish power i could not care less what you think. thanx for reviewing my behavior though, i really need that.peace,luke
