At what age do you start to lose strength, stamina, speed.

I'll be forty this year and I don't think I have lost a step and I'm just as strong as ever. The only difference is, I'm succeptible to injuries because I've had so many in the past. I know this is going to differ from person to person, but there has to be some point when your quickness, speed, strength begins to diminish.

Of course the reason could be that my hormone levels are artificially jacked. And to think, they just came out with a study claiming that there is no evidene that testosterone improves strength. And they wonder why we don't trust the medical establishment.

In all likelihhod you have lost some speeed and strength, though the decline was so slow as you did not notice.

Stay strong though. :)

I guess no one here is old enough yet to answer this question. Keep drinking and smoking and U will no doubt hit your peak early in life and it's downhill from there.

I think Y_Lifter is trying to reply, but he is having a hard time pressing the keys on the keyboard due to his extreme old age.

You start to lose all these around 30. If you are a professional athleate the drop off is dramatic and noticable. If you are a good gym warrior like most of us then you don't really notice it all that much. I'm not at any of my all time personal bests lifts right now but I'm still pretty strong.

I have actually heard that your raw muscular strength peaks after 30.

I think 90% of the decline is psychological.

First of all you're taught that your skills will decline. Self fulfilling prophecy.

Second of all the mental drive and motivation kind of go away.

Third of all, (and this might be the same thing as #2) you have different priorities in life. I'm only 28 but in the past 2 years I have mellowed out considerably. I don't care if my bf is in the single digits or if I can lift a lot of weight. I mean it would be nice but there are so many other things to life.

Honestly, I think around mid-30s is when you start to lose your edge at the elite athletic level, like WODIN said. Smart athletes make up for it with the mental. That's why you see lots of 40 year old QBs but not many 40year old WRs. Also injury recovery goes down just because your cells get tired.

One thing I don't really get is there are some fucking GEEZERs in the NHL. Yzerman, Lemieux.

For people that are seriously into livign a healthy lifestyle, I think it's entirely possible for a 40-year-old you to lift and run circles around a 30-year-old you, assuming you haev been practicing just as hard. Hell if you were a serious basketball player, I bet you could go back in time and beat your 30-year-old self at one-on-one.

Raw athleticism peaks around 26 but the decline is very slow until the late 30's....generally speaking. My opinion of course, everyone varies.

Why do the worlds greatest athletes retire when they still love the game? Partly because they never fully recover from games and can not do what they used to do. Also get tired of hearing "used to.........."
