Ah! I hate how some benches seem easier than others. This has happened many times to me, but this is the most recent so I'll point it out. 3 weeks ago I made a bench PR of 260. 1 1/2 weeks ago I hit 260 on a final single after many working sets though. (This was all on a friends weight bench). So today I wanted to max out before i started WS, and on my bench I couldn't put up 265. Maybe I was just tired, or because I lost like 2lbs from playing so much sports over the weekend, im not sure, but does this piss anyone else off when this happens!!!! :) Ok, rant off..thanks

Well i really only maxed out, this would be twice in 1 month. I usually don't but when I did 3 weeks ago i was just messing around, it was for fun kinda. Today I wanted to do it so I would know what % of my 1RM to use for WS. Normally I max out about once in 2-3 months.

Different benches can effect your lifting for a number of reasons, as long as it is a quality bench that is the proper width and all, it is probably psychological. But to be honest, I think you worked with too much intensity (too close to failure) on the same movement for too long. Even if you hadn't maxed in 3 months, you can't go 95-100% 3 weeks running, something will give, and it won't be the bar, thats just the nature of the beast, the iron game is like a chess game, you need to constantly outsmart your own body, cause if the body had it's way, it wouldn't change. That being said, it could have also been just one of those days, you know.

Whenever I go to back home for the summer and I lift at Golds, my bench drops by like 30 pounds and I have no idea why. I was think of sueing them for mental anguish.:mix:

nothing is worst than.....

Incline bench for this:mad: Everywhere I go it seems the incline i just a little bit off, or the width is different or the rack is too far back. it usually takes about a week or two to get comfortable with a set up. For this reason alone I like to train in one place as often as I can.

Are you sure it’s not the plates? I’m sure there are some small variations between the weights of plate sets at different gyms. Usually it isn’t going to make a huge difference if a plate is + or – 0.5 or 0.25 lb, but when you put 2, 3 or 4 on each side of the bar it adds up, specially when you are pushing yourself to the limit of your abilities!

Also, are you using collars? These can be anything up to 5 lbs! Are the benches the same height from the floor? This gives you a different arch in your back with your feet on the floor. Also I find the atmosphere in the gym makes a big difference. Sometimes it is just impossible to concentrate…

Maybe its the environment your in. I know at some gyms I lift more, but its usually because of the people/music/atmosphere/training partner etc...
Sometimes I just get more pumped up than others based on these variables..who knows, just an idea

i just think your cns is a little fried. i know how that feels. but you see it could be an infinite number of possiblities. you could not have ate as much, the sports from the weekend affected your recovery ability. the plates were different weights, then bench was higher/shorter, thicker/thiner, a parasite could have been cause a calorie deprivation in your stomach.

im not trying to sound mean or put you down, please dont take it that way, im sorry if i do sound like that. im just saying this. with wsb and any other program where it gages your maximum effort on an exercise there is so much room for error. think about it. if on your best day when everything goes right you benched 260lbs. week and half latter you benched the same. another week and a half latter and you missed 5 lbs more. so many things could have affected you. see thats how 1 rep max work goes. those things that you dont think make a difference, are amplified greatly when get to going for 1 rep. thats why its important to raise your g.p.p. that is the main reason westside works.

when i was training wsb...... my m.e. day was on saturday. i would wake up late after not getting enough sleep and have 1 half assed meal and go try to set a pr. it didnt work well.

just think about it. im sorry i ranted but i hope it helps.
