Thats absolutely true. In 30 years, a million may not even be enough to retire on. They are even saying this at present. If you want to truely live the millionaire lifestyle, i.e huge house, 3 cars, yacht etc, they're saying you need at least 3 million. With this in mind though, will my potential not increase also. Will a million be 'easier' to achieve. Guess only time is going to tell. A 30-year old making $50,000 a year (plus 3% raises each year), saving 10% of their income with a 10% return each year could even expect to hit millionaire status by age 59. And if they work until the traditional retirement age of 65, they will have over two million dollars saved up.

Remember, wealth is relative, it doesn't necessarily mean "millionaire'' though.

In 30 years the millionaire lifestyle may not be so extraordinary anymore and the standard will go up. The so called millionaire lifestyle is largely nothing more than a lifestyle that is (as a guess) 300% more lavish than the median. Since the median will go up with time so will the definition of the millionaire lifestyle. In 1910 a single car that barely ran was the millionaire lifestyle when everyone else had a horse. Luxuries become necessities. An average house in 1950 was 1000 sq ft, in the 70s it was 2000, now it is 3000.

Make sure you have your home paid off by the time you retire though. Besides I don't know what pensioner program you have in the UK but in the US we have social security. So that can add a good deal to your income. It can replace about 30-50% (sometimes up to 100% if you make minimum wage) of your post tax income from when you were working.

There was a guy on EF a while back named Dballer who was doing the same thing. He'd live off a fraction of his income and invest the rest to retire in his 40s. I have no idea where he is now, but he was in his 30s when he was doing this.
