Actually, bin Laden has said numerous times that it was Clinton's pullout from Somalia that convinced him the US could be defeated.

And yes, our current policy there sucks. But increasing the troop number isnt the answer. Increasing our willingness to actually fight a war is.

1) unlike some (cough) I'm not making stuff up as I go along. The thought that more troops would be required came from the chair of the joint chiefs during the runup to the war. (he was canned because he told the truth. not allowed in this administration). I suggest you ask him for the details of what they would do and how they would do it.

At a hearing Tuesday before the Senate Armed Services Committee, Gen. Shinseki was pressed by Sen. Carl Levin, Michigan Democrat, to estimate the size of an allied occupation force after victory.

"Something on the order of several hundred thousand soldiers are probably a figure that would be required," Gen. Shinseki said. "We're talking about a post-hostilities control over a piece of geography that's fairly significant, with the kinds of ethnic tensions that could lead to other problems."
