You really gotta give the GOP credit where credit is due on this emergency vote...

this was smart and shameless. they voted down the democratic bill which actually had teeth (i didnt read it, but based on newsreports i didnt agree with the timetable provision), and watered it down and then made it like it was their idea after reading the polls where something like 80% disagree with the Iraq debacle.

What it does do is finally get Democrats to offer solutions for once. Flips them on their back to be exposed

The issue of what next is never answered, it shifts the thinking towards the future instead of complaining all the time. Pulling out right now or six months doesnt make a difference. Six months wont change a thing. Six months will come and pass and you'll still have the reasons to stay there as there are now.

The US broke it, now they have to fix it. Leaving now would leave a failed state, its the worst idea since the democrats lead us into Vietnam and then lost it for us b/c of the same political problems they always face.

We've been on EF for well longer than six months telling Perfectworld to offer solutions. Never would answer the question of troop withdrawal.

So Ill ask you, OK, give us a rosy picture of what happens in Iraq six months from now when all the troops are gone???? Describe for us this wonderful democratic achievement will play out in the news and history

This isn't going to be the "1" that rallys the nation behind Bush. Only stupid fucking idiots will fall for this stunt. You know the dems won't fall for it, so that means all the aforementioned "stupid fucking idiots" are all GOP supporters. So this is proof that your not so smart afterall.

By now it's clear to everyone what the GOP is all about. And other states besides CA are soon going to find out what kind of voting power and influence we really have on your richy rich bullshit.

The country is full of em. They can tell this by poll numbers saying that people think that Bush hasnt made a dent in terrorism. And by the amount of people that actually listen to folks like Michael Moore and Cindy Sheehan.

As I said, it was a good move, mainly because the country isnt full of folks like you and I, who can see this for what it was.

When people are listening to a filmaker - Moore and a housewife - Cindy and believing in them more than they are believing in the President they elected, you know the smoke is clearing.

Even Riley has said that the U.S. needs to get out. NOW.

Either that or they are smoking too much.

Iraq isn't a matter of status quo or pulling out. We can't do either. An American military presence is necessary for the continued stability of basic infrastructure. What we do need to do, IMHO is the following.

Replace American contractors with Iraqi businesses, that way there is less resentment and a larger personal stake in the continued well-being of Iraq.

Increase the role of the Iraqi security forces in internal security, use the US forces for border interdiction and mop-up operations.

We can draw-down our forces smartly, but a complete pullout is an asinine option that would only increase the bloodshed.

As I've said in other posts, we had no business being there, but now that we broke it we have to fix it. we cant just pick up and go. the only answer is to send in the 500,000 troops that Gen Shinsecki had originally said would be neccessary (maybe more now that its a complete clusterfuck) and "win".

Once the insurgency is overwhelmed, accellerate the transition to Iraqii keystone-cops armed forces maintaining their own security.
