Women, DNP and Future Pregnancy!!!!

My wife wants to do a run or two of DNP to lower her body fat a little. She diets properly and works-out properly, but that last little bit she wants to lose seems to be stagnate.

However, one question still eludes us. Does DNP have a long term effect on a womens fertility. We do not have kids yet, but plan on trying in a couple of years.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Unfortunately, there's no conclusive evidence one way or another about how DNP may affect fertility. It's Ames-negative - meaning it does not promote tumor growth - but that doesn't mean it's not potentially tetragenic or mutagenic. Better safe than sorry. Stay away.

Well....I think it will be shown to be detrimental to sperm and eggs as well.

Sperm production is an ongoing deal - no big whoop....technically

You ladies have already produced all the eggs you will ever have(think pez despenser) - so if there IS a detrimental effect - it will most likely affect ALL the eggs......

I do think however that fertility issues aside - dnp gets a bad rap especially when taken by sane adults who take the proper precautions.

There is ALWAYS something else to manipulate without resorting to drugs - especially one as nasty as DNP.

She diets "properly" - what does that mean? When was the last time she changed her diet and/or workout schedule - maybe her body/metabolism has adapted? Or is she overtraining? Sleep schedule, water intake, medications - it all can impact fat loss...

Just some thoughts....

*SIGH*

From the 1991 EPA's Pesticide Fact Sheet Database: "Because of the adverse effects observed in laboratory animals at low chronic exposure levels, it is believed that dinitrophenol may cause decreased fertility or sterility in humans.............."

Imagine what high level exposure might do to her fertiltiy! Don't even THINK about it please. If it's THAT important for her to lose the last bit of fat, she would be better off with liposuction....less potential to affect fertility or unborn children. Or she could undergo fertiltiy treatment and have some fertilized eggs frozen down for later use. But is it really worth it to obtain a brief moment of unmaintanable leaness??? Is this level of vanity REALLY worth the potential risks to herself and future generations??

DNP should not hurt the existing eggs... because they are not metabolically active. However, a growing embryo would be effected, because there will be a lack of ATP.. which will/can cause cell death...

DNP stays in the body for months after usage... so it could affect a pregnancy after this time period. DNP doesn't do anything to "alter" the DNA.

As for the "temporary" loss in fat... it is kind of true. Appearence is always the result of lifestyle. If you maintain a great diet, the gains will be more lasting... it does not effect the body as T3 does as DNP does not effect your metobolism after the cycle.

Women I have suggested DNP to at 100mg daily have had excellant results... the fat loss has stayed off, for the most part, as a result of a good diet after the stopping of DNP... fat did come back however, when a normal diet was used again.

On a side note, I wouldn't suggest DNP to a woman who wanted to or is going to have a child with in the next year... for the above stated reasons

mmm, nice stuff!

From the EU hazardous compounds database (annex I to directive 67/548/EEC):

2,4-dinitrophenol

Symbols

Toxic
Dangerous for the environment

Risk-phrases
Toxic by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed.
Danger of cumulative effects.
Toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment.

Safety-phrases
Keep locked up and out of the reach of children.
After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of ... (to be specified by the manufacturer).
Wear suitable gloves.
In case of accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately (show the label where possible).
Avoid release to the environment. Refer to special instructions/safety data sheets.

"toxic if swallowed" means it killed half of the rats that had to eat it at in between 25 and 200 mg/kg bw .. I read somewhere on the internet that an effective dose for fat burning would be 10 mg/kg bw? ??? Mmm, tricky business if you ask me!

To get to your question: no teratogenic effects are mentioned here, which doesn't mean they cannot exist!. But at least chances are high this has been thoroughly investigated and either not found or not thought of as enough evidence. Also, if fetal toxicity 'only' occurs at levels which are maternally toxic (and the effects by DNP at fatburning concentrations ARE seen as toxic effects!), teratogenity won't even be mentioned, as it's evidential the fetus will be damaged when the mother herself is! Bear that in mind.

Danger of cumulative effects has been explained in a post above; it's because the stuff will stay in your body for such a long time.

I found this MSDS (material safety data sheet): http://hazard.com/msds/f/cjt/cjtmw.html ...

Effects of Exposure: ACUTE EFFECTS: MAY BE FATAL IF INHALED, SWALLOWED OR
ABSORBED THROUGH SKIN. CAUSES EYE AND SKIN IRRITATION. MATERIAL IS IRRITATING
TO MUCOUS MEMBRANES AND UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT. DISRUPTS OXIDATIVE P
HOSPHORYLATION WHICH RESULTS IN INCREASED METABOLISM, CONSUMPTION OF OXYGEN
AND PRODUCTION OF HEAT. EXPOSURE IS CHARACTERIZED BY SUDDEN ONSET OF FATIGUE,
THIRST AND SWEATING. SYMPTOMS INCLUDE NAUSEA, VOMITING, ANOREXIA, WEAKNESS,
DIZZINESS, VERTIGO, HEADACHE AND SWEATING. CHRONIC EFFECTS: DAMAGE TO THE
LIVER. DERMATITIS. TARGET ORGANS: CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. EYES. LIVER,
KIDNEYS. BLOOD, LUNGS.

ORL-RAT LD50: 30 MG/KG

They do not mention effects to fertility either, but my remark above applies.

"ORL-RAT LD50: 30 MG/KG" means it kill half of the rats that ate it at 30 mg/kg bw, died.

OK, found something else, a list of teratogenic compounds which DOES contain DNP: http://www.adpc.purdue.edu/PhysFac/rem/home/files/terat.htm (2,4-dinitrophenol) ... I think it depends on the definition of teratogenity. The one used in European law is the one I mentioned above about fetal vs. maternal toxicity. Perhaps the definition used by this website is somewhat more strict.

I don't think DNP will damage eggcells, as I couldn't find any data at all on such effects. But due to the cumulative effects, it can still cause problems when getting pregnant!

Conclusio: I wouldn't use this stuff even if hell would freeze over, no matter if I ever would want to have kids or not. I seriously agree liposuction would be a better idea then (well, I wouldn't do that either, but just the thought of it is múch less frightening than taking DNP :D)
