Why is training bodyparts more than 1X/week bad?

i hit each muscle 3-4 times a week also. i am natural and thick and cut . always train at the 2-3 rep range

ok the consensus of the majority is that training bodyparts more than once a week is overtraining, i also only train bodyparts once a week thought i dont totally agree doing more woudl be overtraining. but this also makes me think, look at the people that are using certain bodyparts every day and are so developed, for example fat people always have huge calves from walking around on them all day, people that work on cars usually have big forearms from alwaysl uisng like wrenches and tools, swimmers usually always have big legs from swimming everydayusing thier legs to beat the resistance of their body and water, gymnasts always are fully developed from every day using their body as resistance on the exercises they do, the list goes on and on. this makes me think doing bodyparts twice a week with above average intensity and sufficient eating habits would be ok.

You cannot compare synaptic facilitation to increasing frequency to twice a week. It's so very different.

It's an entire topic in its own.

y do u say that, it is basically working bodyparts nearly every day, this topic relates with increasing the frequency of working bodyparts, or is the intensity synaptic facilitation has y u say u cant compare?

let me quote Ian King

"The nerves fire the muscles. When the nerves get low on their fuel, they can't work. So not only do the muscles need to recover, but so does the nervous system. I haven't seen a lot of quantification of this system but experts in the world of athletic preparation commonly quote that the CNS takes 5-6 times longer than the muscles to recover. Because the CNS is common to the whole body, lack of recovery of the CNS is one reason why you should not train more than 2 days consecutively (generally speaking, in strength training). Your CNS is unlikely to recover, despite the fact you are training different muscle groups. This concept is totally overlooked by those training a split routine more than 4 times a week. Not even anabolics can ensure adequate recovery of the CNS. Muscles can be willing, but the lead to the spark plug is off!"

CoolColJ, I agree. But training fullbody allows you to train each bodypart 3X a week with plenty of recuperatoin time.

110%:

Synaptic facilitation uses EXTREME frequency and volume with an infinitly small load.

You cannot compare walking to squatting twice a week.

You just can't. To say that we can walk all day long is not an argument to favor higher gym frequency because the variable of intensity comes into play [which it does not during synaptic facilitation]

But again, higher frequency is better IMHO.

too many of these small skinny fat people whine about overtraining lol. yet im at the gym 7 days a week hitting each muscle 3-4 times a week ripped and bigger than they are and yet they try to tell me im overtraining. on top of that i do construction work i lifting all day and using tools and constantly doing shit and im bigger than alot of people that juice, even the juice heads whine about overtraining. for the people that think they over train try training at low reps around 2-3 and keep sets around 6-8 for each muscle group and hit the muscle 3-4 times a week preferably 4. im also thinking about doing a fullbody workout 7 days a week keeping the sets around 4 per bodypart and reps around 2-3 this may mean even better gains who knows

Dude, I think you are overtraining. Full body 7X a week with sets of 2-3.

Do you realize the strain on the CNS? This was NOT what I was advocating, folks...

Are you staying VERY far form failure??

Wow...thanks for all the replies.

Spatts and Daisy_Girl...I agree when you say everybody's different and probably listening to one's own body is the best way. I definitely feel that I could do my upper body 2x/week, however, I think I need to keep my leg workout spaced out to at least 5 days.

I guess I'll just need to experient and see what works. :)
