Why do some homeless folks stay all bundled up in the summer? How can they stand it?

I was talking to a friend of mine a couple of days ago and she was telling me about all the homeless people that congregated around the building where she worked. Somehow this question came up, and when I think about it, it really is kind of wild. I mean, maybe they wear the stuff because they don't want to lose it, but clothes aren't that hard to come by and it would definitely seem to be a worthy sacrifice to avoid the misery and possible heat stroke.

What gives here?

Cas, I see alot of that in DC, and I think you hit it on the head when you said it was about not losing what they have.

I don't know how they do it, but they manage to stay alive in those thick down coats in 95 degree heat and humidity.

I was thinking that maybe they eat so little that there metabolisms shut down and they get cold very easily, or it at least allows them to stand it and that's why wearing the clothes so they don't lose them is possible.

That was the best idea I could come up with.

They don't want to have to frantically search for a coat when october rolls around and have fear of their only personally items being stolen and keep them as close as possible. If you want to get in real fight, try stealing the bag ladies shopping cart sometime.
