Whole food meal after PWO shake... worry about fats riding insulin spike?

psychedout

New member
Okay heres what things usually looks like.

PWO shake:

60 gram whey protein
50 gram gatorade (sugar + dextrose basically)

Now, I eat a whole food meal about 45- 75 minutes later.

It consists usually of something like 2 cans tuna and 1/3 cup Almonds. Do I have to be worried about these fats riding the slin spike from my PWO shake?

Or has enough time passed for this to be of no concern?

Curious - Why are you eating another meal that "soon" after a PWO shake? Is it a time/convience thing or what? If you are concerned about the fat (which I think is a valid concern), I'd drop the almonds and replace the calories with a complex carb source.

Id like to replace with complex carbs, then only thing is, I train in the evening, fairly close to bed time, and I generally stay away from carbs in the evening -- I am a lard ass endo.

And, I dunno, I've always eaten my whole food meal, like 1 hr after my shake.

If you've performed activity that demands you ingest adequate pwo nutrition (pwo liquid carb/pro meal, then a solid carb/pro offering), there is no carb "cut-off" time, as the materials ingested would be in the proper amounts to support recovery/lean mass preservation/gain, and not contribute to fat storage in any way/shape/form.

Don't be overly concerned with the fat. However, unless i'm cutting I prefer the meal 1 hour post workout to be moderate carb and low fat just because I want to replace the muscle glycogen. The reason for the meal 1 hour post workout is to get as many nutrients into your body as possible because your body is primed for recovery post workout.
