The best at what?

Robert.. Fallskjermjaegerne (Rangers) Marinejaegerne (Navy)

Good Point...
Of course many of the groups that USED to be great, have fallen apart due to funding issues in Europe or Russia such as Spetnaz or even SAS.
The US/British being the Police of the world continue to fund their Spec Ops groups if not increase it..
That's why, if anything, they are better able to meet the objective
vs some other group..

Ships/Beaches/Underwater Demo = US Navy Seals or Royal Marines
Killing quick quiet dirty = SAS / Beret / Delta Force /
Recon or Urban Warfare = Rangers or Seals
Para Insertion / Capture / Extraction = Airborn or Delta Force

When it absolutely Positively has to be Destroyed overnight = USAF
Can you say Spookey ?

I bet the absolute best ones are very small groups that civilians never get to hear of.

True..
but then again, how can you rank something you don't know exists? :)

And as to Israel's military being superior.. It is good and their people are dedicated to the cause but...

IMO its not so much heavy deployments or skill, but more like determination and throwing all of the rules of engagement out the window. In a straight up fight they are good..

Obviously they don't do so well with infiltrating and dealing with guerrilla fighting tactics other than blowing up a city block where some dude is.

the FRENCH FORIEGN LEGION....atleast thats what MAXIM magazine said in one of the issues... and could very well be true since noone ever hears about em.. but opinions vary i guess.... I always did love the US Green Berets... but the British SAS and them Isreali Special Forces groups im really curious about.. to see what there all about

In my opinion the top 3 groups in the world would be (in no particular order) the US Delta Force, Israeli Sayeret Matkal and the British SAS.

The US Navy Seals could possibly fall into this group, but from my experiences/knowlegdge Delta is better. As for the rest of the US's units after the Seals, Marine Corps Force Recon followed by AirForce ParaRescue and Army Rangers (about the same level, just different primary skills) and then Green Berets (who mostly do advising work.)

Just my opinions,

Sort of related to this thread.

Has the US military got any special hostage extraction teams?

If so, why the fuck aren't they being used in Iraq?

If not, how about spending some resources on that?
