I use basketball high tops for squats and wrestling shoes for deads in a contest. When I do deads at the gym I go barefoot, the lower the sole of the shoe the less distance the bar has to travel meaning more weight
Although I see your logic in the thin soled shoe preference, I think weightlifting shoes are still a better choice even though they do have a thick wooden sole of almost an inch. This is not a disadvantage because it actually puts you in a better position at the bottom of the lift, the hardest part. So if you have to travel that extra half inch at the top, thats when the weight is lightest, and you are in your strongest range of motion. So any disadvantage is more than offset by the increased stability and better positioning at the hardest part of the lift, the takeoff. Trust me, there is a reason that every single olympic lifter uses them. And I dont want to start a pissing contest but IMHO those guys are by far the strongest and hardest training of all athletes.
Interesting, well as long as you tried them both, you obviously know what works for you. Heck, if youre squatting 600+ pounds in chucks that says something. They are flat and stable, and I can see how that would work. Have you ever tried squatting/pulling in the adidas shoes? What did you think?
I have the same problem, very flat footed and all my athletic shoes I have cause my feet to roll outwards during squats...anyone have any recommendations for a good sneaker for flat footed people? I can't justify shoes for only weightlifting as I would want to use them for treadmill walking, biking etc. Someone once told me new balance makes good shoes for flat footed people?
