What kind of gloves do you use...

my hands are dry as hell now, so i constantly have to use lotion so they dont crack. I used to wear gloves, then i grew balls and stopped... i also used to use a squat bar pad.. but i also grew out of that.

I wonder if my hands are dry from lifting, or being dared to light my hand on fire after spraying it with hairspray....idk...

i never wear gloves. neither do my partners (one is a female). the feeling is somewhat fake with gloves on. buy some cheap ass chalk at academy or whatever sporting goods store is near yer casa. i think u can find like 8 blocks of chalk for $10 or something like that.

I use to never use gloves until about 2 weeks ago.
My calusses got too bad...
I got Harbringer gloves... they cost me $35 + tax.
They are VERY good imo..

This thread is very funny.

Please come back to reality.

If you think not wearing gloves makes you tough or that wearing gloves means you have no balls, then you some serious issues and have a lot to learn.

If its minus 10 degrees outside and snowing...do you wear a coat? Or is it tougher to not wear one?

Please put the fucking coat on. It has nothing to do with toughness.

Wearing gloves is about preference. I never wore them until recently. I worked out for 12 years without gloves and had nice calluses.

But when I do shrugs with 180 pounds dumbells or did rows with 250+ pounds the calluses are ready to rip off.

I love wearing the gloves..especially when doing pulling action. But sometimes I dont wear them when benching or doing shoulders...cause I do like the feel of the bar in my hands sometimes.

But for younger guys on the board....don't believe not wearing gloves makes you tough. It doesn't... it is a personal choice if you want to wear them or not.

Peace
SI

I hadn't worn gloves for years, but got tired of the callusses. I use Harbinger gloves with the wrist wraps for my pushing exercises, but I use Versa Grips for all my pulling exercises like back and shrugs. IMO Versa Grips are the best thing since the weight belt. They allow me to do more weight for more reps w/o my grip giving out.

1) If it is -10 outside I only wear a coat if I'm not working hard enough to keep warm.

2) The point was that Pineapple said he has soft hands and so has to wear gloves. I'm a pen pusher too, but I don't wear gloves and don't have soft hands.....cos I don't wear gloves. If he quit wearing gloves, his hands would toughen up.

3) Most of the comments about people wearing gloves being wusses were jokes or were pointing out that gloves aren't necessary.

4) If you take care of your hands, the calluses dont rip off all that often. When they do, your hands come back tougher than ever (mine are a bit like benchmonsters).

5) Why are you so sensitive about these comments about gloves?

BTW I stopped using gloves, got some chalk and haven't looked back.

1. What???

2. He was asking for a good brand of glove.

3. This whole thread is joke.

4. Calluses build up and sometimes rip off. Then they come back again. I am glad you think you have tough hands. You should be very proud.

5. Not sensitive at all. Thought it was funny that some thought there was a correlation between callusses and toughness. There isn't.

If you like having calluses don't wear gloves.

If you want to wear gloves then wear them.

I do both.

Strong Island,

I am in no way trying to pick a fight with you, and I have actually had some giggles from this thread, but. . . there definately is a correlation between not wearing gloves and toughness.

Knurled steel biting into my hand hurts. If I wore gloves, it would hurt less, but I would have hands like a prison yard bitch. . . Not happenin.

Also, gloves are not allowed in competition. I remember when I was young and thought I would grow up and become Mr Oklahoma, and I wore Rafael Daniels fingerless gloves when I lifted. When I went off to college and trained with some real genuinely tough and strong guys who lauged at people who wore gloves and leg warmers, then I threw them away, and I discovered that knurled bars hurt.

A bench bar with 300 lbs on it felt like it would crush my hands. Now I hardly notice it as I pass it warming up. I shook hands with a 600 plus bencher Saturday, and I can tell you from the sandpaper like surface, his hands have not been covered with a glove while lifting in some years.

Sure it is a matter of personal opinion. But walk into Westside Barbell Club, or the L.A. Lifting Club, or the House of Pain, or my Dungeon with some gloves on, and you will definately get some funny looks from guys who are there to TRAIN.

Don't use gloves, and don't use straps, and you will be better off in the long run.

If you are going to be pushing/pulling/squatting serious weights...you don't need to be wearing gloves.

If you must...then go ahead. My hands are pretty soft...and I do tons of grip (heavy) stuff. I also use lotion a few times daily.

Do what works for you...
