Westside and cardio?

Will doing cardio 3 times a week effect strength results while training with the westside routine. Some powerlifting routines tell you to cut out cardio.

yes, it will affect your strength levels. You can probably do a little cardio without hurting anything, but as Dave Tate says, you cannot run a 4 minute mile and bench 400 at the same time.

You would probably be better off doing some sled dragging 3 times per week if you are interested in attaining maximal strength and fitness.

If for some reason you have to be able to run some distance, for military, or football, or something, then just realize that you can do both cardio and strength training, but that one does work against the other.

Brian's got it right

Stick with the sled dragging. It will really get you in good condition. Just don't be too eager when you start out or else you may overtrain it. It doesn't sound like much but it sure will wear you down if you do too much right off the bat. Be sure not to g ooverboard and follow the rule of 60 and you'll be fine.

If you have to do cardio though like all these guys have told me do light cardio enough that you don't have to breathe hard or you can't talk while doing it and don't run if that's what your doing for over 20 minutes.

Bit confused.

I know its not cardio...but i walk an hour to work every day.
My max effort deadlift exercise (last week/yesterday) is pulls off 2" mats.

week before last i walked 5 days a week for an hour...its not an easy walk. that week i pulled 8kgs more than i last did on the pulls.
another week passes walking to work, I try pulling this week as well. 10kgs up on last week.

I have kept my eating up and have a big breakfast before walk/work

my max bench is up as well.

I get puffed on the walk and sweat a lot...so its nearly cardio.

Endpoint,

In my earlier post, I was talking about people who jog 5 miles, that sort of thing. I think what you are doing would be quite beneficial both to your strength and overall health. Getting some blood moving around has to be a good thing. Now if you ran all the way to work instead of walking, I think it would be a different story.

Congrats on the gains by the way.
