Washing your equipment.

I think my equipment needs a good washing.. kinda reeks.

but the thing is.. my champion suit, which used to take 10 minutes to get on, now goes on in 3, and my bench shirt is looser too..

so i think i may wash it to get it back closer to its original size.

Now how do i go about washing it? hot water , cold water??? how long? hand wash? machine??

any help would be appreciated.

You WANT it to get smaller?

Personally I would wash them by hand or on delicate with cold water.

But if you WANT it to shrink, go warmer. Just not sure you won't come out with a baby shirt.

with the shirt.. its a poly shirt.. its gotta be tight... like 15 sizes too small (exageration)

and the squat suit.. its just too loose.. went on no problem..

so do you just recommend soaking it in warm water??

Man, I'm afraid to say. It's really the drier that shrinks stuff alot. So I'd say hot water and line dry. But if you do that, and your squat suit looks like a onesie, I'll feel BAD. LOL

This is from Rickey Dale Crain's newsletter from March 24, 2002:

i am going to take a few minutes to give out some information that constantly seems to be of concern to lifters.......about your equipment...... 1.......you can wash your wrist and knee wraps but you will lose some elasticity in the process.....so don't throw them around and drag them around and they will not get dirty enough to need washing.....most lifters buy a new set every few years anyway....and keep the old ones to train in and/or give them to an upcoming or beginning lifter..... 2......on power suits (squat suits)...and bench shirts you need to wash them after every workout.....not only do they get offensive in smell; (unless you guys are used to wearing your underwear for a week without washing it) just ask your workout partners...they will appreciate it....but also....and this is a biggee.....the body salts (remember you sweat ) can eat the threads and material and hurt the integrity and structure of the suit....making it more liable to tear ...rip or blow......when under normal circumstances it would not happen.....same with the power briefs..etc..

Hmmm. He repeats his newsletters quite a bit. I'll look for the one where he tells you how to wash it. I believe he recommends that you wash it in cold water and then dry it in the dryer on the permanent press cycle to shrink it back down to the original size.

Dave Tate:

Have any of you heard of washing a bench shirt and then drying it in a dryer to make it tighter? I read an article a while back which gave this as an option to make a shirt shrink and fit a little more snug. Anybody hear of this or tried it? Thanks

It works. But, be careful. It may work too well. Try just washing it in warm water first and letting it hang dry. If it still needs to be tighter, then you can wash and dry it.

Here's another:

Dave/Staff, I know your guiys don't wear poly shirts but if anyone is willing to post on this it would help. Any Do's and Don'ts to washing your single ply poly bench shirt?

If it fits was it in cold water and let it hang dry. If it is loose, was it in warm water and let it hang dry. If it is very loose wash it in warm water and dry it in the dryer.
