Waist Weight Harness

I'm not looking to shell out alot of money, I checked the Wal-Mart website and could not find a harness you can attach plates to that goes around the waist.

I really need one for dips and pull ups, I'm sick of straddling/humping a dumbell everytime I want to do weighted pull ups.

Anyone know which stores carry these, or an online website I could hit up. Again, I'm not trying to spend too much although I don't know how much these things go for.

^^ I use something like 5 or 6 feet of chain and 2 carabiners, from Home Depot which cost something like $5-7 and works fine. If you want to go this route, just keep an eye on the ratings for how much the pieces can hold and make sure the chain links are thick enough so that they aren't digging into your side and ripping you up.

If you want to buy an actual belt made for the purpose, I used to have one of those, I think they go for 20-25 bucks. Not worth the extra money in my opinion, unless you were attaching like 500 lbs to the chain, then I suspect it might start to hurt without some kind of padding...

Haha.. I'm only using around 2 plates and the chain doesn't really bother me at all, but I can definitely see that as the weights start going way up it could be an issue.

As for the clips, you can get ones that support over 1000 lbs which are still pretty small (~1/4 inch). Just make sure whatever you get can support an appropriate load for what you're doing.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go with the homeade approach.

A fathom of thick chain, coupla S Hooks and I think it'll be good. Thanks guys.

I have a tool belt that I got at Lowe's, which comes with a super-thick padded suspenders harness. It works perfectly for plate hanging, and doesn't dig in since the weight is spread from the hips to the shoulders. There are several styles, but the one I like is all ballistic nylon. About $30 for the belt and the suspenders. You have to add whatever kind of hooks or loops you want, for putting the weights on; however you want. It's plenty strong, even though it's not leather. I'd tow a car with it if I needed.
