upright rows

i've seen some conflicting things on this, so i'm hoping someone can set this straight for me...

on upright rows...what is the difference between a narrower grip vs. a wider (shoulder-width) grip? i know one is supposed to hit the delts more (the wider grip?) while one targets the traps more (the narrow grip?).

help.

don't do narrow grip! This will impinge the rotary cuffs!

Use at least shoudler width grip, keep the bar very close to the body, almost scrpaing and pull up to sternum only, in fatc if your doing it right, you will not be able to get it much higher anyway.

Great move for the medial delts, traps and some posterior delt, more if you lean forward slightly

Go with a grip so that your hands come up right in front of your shoulders. I love em for blasting the side delts.

These can be rough on the rotator cuffs, so I always save them for the end of my workout. The muscles are already tired and I can stress them with lower weight.

No close grip? :shock2:

Oh shit! I've been doing that, and pretty heavy too. I wasn't sure if it was those, or incorrect bench form (I'm not sure if I do it right) that makes my rotator cuffs hurt.

It's your rotator cuffs when you have that pain in between your upper pecs, and anterior delts, right? Like, underneath the collar bone?

Overall, I am against the close grip.

Like CoolColJ said, it is harder on the cuffs and the wrists.

When I perform up right rows, I will stick with the shoulder width grip.

I do upright rows with dumbells, will I be working my shoulders more if I use a barbell?

Mike

no difference, only that with dumbells you work both side equally, with barbell you will find one side stronger than the other and the barbell will angle up
