Someone posted about this here I think that the tuna in the can doesn't measure out to be what the oz on the can say. Since I'm going to have tuna for lunch tomorrow I figured I would see what the dealio is. So I drained the can, gave the broth to my cat & weighed the tuna left. For my 6.5 oz can of white albacore tuna, the tuna inside weighed 4.25 oz!!!!

So, while not really a conspiracy, I've been overestimating my tuna consumption. Hmpf!

I'll get right on that!

That's what they mean by 'drained weight' on the back of the can. It says that there is about 2.5 servings per can. Each serving being 2 oz of drained product. 2.5 x 2 = 5 approx. ozs per can. So, I suppose that while they consider the broth or oil part of the Net wt., they obviously don't expect you to eat it. Which, by my reasoning, would lead one to entertain conspiratorial theories.

...

After I open the can & step around dancing cats, I drain the water out into a bowl & the cats drink it, yes.

What tuna was left (now mostly dry) I weighed. At least now I know how much to record on my online food log. I was putting in a higher number.
