Training on Game Day

RABS

New member
Question I've been pondering for a while now.

Should one train on game day ??

For example:
Friday I got a hockey game at 11:30. Should I go to the gym that day and work out and do cardio or do I not risk over exertion and the game is enough excersise anyway ??

Also what is the bro's advise for a great energy giving meal prior to game time ??

Bottom line..........what do you guys do ??

THANKS MUCH

always, pasta

Pasta is real good. You want to get a lot of complex carts. My football team always used to go to Olive Garden (which is pasta restaurant in-case you haven't heard of it) the night before games. If you search for carb loading there may be more threads about that on this board. As far as training goes, I would not want to train on game day, especially your legs if you are playing hockey. In general you should be training lighter or be in a maintenance phase during the season.

If your coach finds out you are hitting the gym before a game he will bench you. My daughter plays volleyball. Her games are Tuesday's and Thursday's. She does leg day on Thursday night so she has maximum recovery before Tuesday's game. The hits Chest/shoulders/tiri's on Friday and back/bi's on Saturday... all designed to give her full recovery before another game.

never workout before an event, why deplete your energy stores... I always eat rice or beans before events and lifting, sometimes pasta but I feel it is too heavy on my stomach....

crazy!! Never work ou t before game day. If anything you should rest as early as the day before, eat like t hey said above a lot of carbs. But true that, if your coach finds out he will bench you for sure.......good luck with hokey.
