Spatts is exactly right; it's not necessarily the AAS; some of these women have done some excessive tanning (why do they still tan their faces?) and that constant cutting/gaining weight is really hard on you. Plus, the pressure to make cosmetic changes to your physique at that level just turns me off. I was getting tired of seeing oversized breasts everywhere I looked. I don't understand why some of these women get such large breast implants - oh, maybe it's because all but one of the judges were male...

I have to admit, I was seriously coveting some of the fitness women's back development; damn, they had incredible physiques! I was surprised at how small boned and petite all the figure girls were. They have these tiny little frames; the judges are definitely going after a very specific look.

I spoke with Elaine Goodlad after the show (she's 5'7" and I'm maybe a bit more muscular than she is - I'm definitely larger boned); she didn't make finals and said she was the largest girl on stage. She's been told she needs to come in even smaller, and she's quite a bit less muscled than the fitness girls. Man, is she gorgeous! I believe she's in her late 30's too. I had really hoped she'd take the top spot; it would at least show the tall girls have a chance.

Yeah, I think sometimes the gals get a little too much breast. IMO, it.."they"...can throw off the symmetry.

I also agree with the spattsnator. The dieting, physical preparations, pre-contest stress and you throw in all that tanning and tanning shit on the skin? Oh, and let's know forgot (since JJ mentioned it) how being told you should look one way in one show; only to be told differently at a later show can fray the nerves, too.

ANY type of physique competitions are tough on the skin. Period. And the skin sets the tone of the overall look of a competitor.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone. I was just assuming since J.J. said she was glad she was natural she was attributing the bad hair, skin, etc. to the AS. My BAD! I suppose a lot of it can also be attributed to one's bone structure and how lean their faces get when dieting for a show. I by no means meant to downplay fitness women or what they have accomplished with their bodies.

You didn't offend me...as far as I'm concerned, they're downplaying themselves. Why on earth anyone would need AAS to be a figure competitor is beyond me. I guess some people are REALLY hard gainers, or don't know how to diet.

...on the other hand, AAS is probably one of the smarter things they do to themselves.

c'mon you guys-- what you see in Oxygen has been photoshopped/edited to death-- I see Amy Fadhli everyday at the gym & she does NOT have the abs you saw in that last issue.. no way!!! she looks good-- but her abs are soft.

Actually, by skin I meant complexion - lots of acnes scars on women's backs and faces. Like I said, Elaine Goodlad is gorgeous - even at competition lean.

BTW - the Figure girls looked pretty natural; it was the fitness women who had advanced physiques. Honestly, I don't see how they could do their fitness routines, strength moves, and maintain low levels of bodyfat without some assistance. Those women work very hard and get very little in return. One girl dislocated her shoulder during her routine - no wonder women are switching over to Figure. It's easier on the body and is an easier physique to obtain.

And I have a feeling Amy Fadhli only gets photographed at specific times of the year; I honestly doubt her pictures are photoshopped and edited. Most of the women only get pictures around competition or after they've had a chance to diet down. As we've stated many times, the level of leanness you obtain for photo shoots and for competition is not a level you can or should maintain year round. So you take a lot of pictures at one time (many outfit changes) that get gradually released by the mags.
