Take a look at this bike lane in my city...

In our city most of the time the bike lane is the right most "travel lane" but then there is a parking lane to the right of the bike lane even. In this case, the parking lane is to the left of the bike lane. The problem with this bike lane is simply that it is too narrow. This is a major downtown street. As you can tell, if one person parks too far in, it blows the whole thing.



Ah, I gotcha.

Well, to be honest I think you're lucky to have a bike lane like that, because the parking lane provides a buffer between you and traffic.

In Chicago the lane is about the same size. However, there is no parking lane inbetween and people get clipped by cars all the time.
 
Bike lanes in austin are at least 6 feet wide. bikers rule the city and can just ride in the middle of the road legally and people in cars gotta live with it.
