if he doesnt have any sort of learning disabilities, it could be just the destractions of his environment...i know that for me when im trying to do something talking is a huge problem for me, as well as just wanting to get my ass out of there.

but dont give him too much of a hard time about it, if possible...maybe if your serious about this go in and talk to the teachers about his actions in class and see if he is on task, or just goofing off. if hes goofing off, you should definately disapline him for that, so this way as he gets older he will have his OWN appreciation for grades...and then after that all you gotta worry about is if the subject material is whats making his grades bad, and not if his attitude/actions in school is.

i lost my train of thought, because im like that...hope i helped a little

thank you. and i talk to his teacher on a daily basis because i drop him off at school every morning and pick him up so im kept abreast of his behavior every day. his teacher reports that he has a hard time paying attention during class work and he seems easily distracted especially in a group setting. im hoping he is just making the adjustment to a more structured classroom. when i asked him why he is having a hard time he tells me that he gets distracted easily like when people walk down the hall or when he hears talking from outside the class

try positive reenforcement rather than stress your kid out with negativity. tell him you'll take him to an amusement park or somewhere that he likes if he gets all A's. and to keep him on track from day to day, tell him he can't watch TV till he has all his homework done, but then reward him with pizza or something on the weekends if he has kept on track without needed to be reminded. something like that... worked for me :)

(and yes i think it's VERY important that a kid stays on top of school from the very start... if he doesn't, he won't get into the accelerated programs in elementary and middleschools, which means he won't do AP in highschool, which means he won't get into a good college etc etc.. you have to set a good trend at an early age or you are screwed nowadays)

i agree. and he does receive rewards or consequences daily based on his behavior at school that day ( i get daily reports from the teacher). i dont feel like im stressing him out about it but its stresssing me LOL when i communicate with him about school and improving, i always let him know how smart he is and that he can do good work and he can behave well because he is a good boy. i try to stay positive at all times. i just dont want to be all over him all the time about it in case it backfires. arent kids fun?

I wouldn't worry about it so much for the time being.

You want to know what stress is?

At least you have a little boy. When he gets to be a young adult you will only have 1 dick to worry about. I have two daughters soon to be young adults and I have to worry about ALL of the dicks.

When I was in middle school, I would print out report card replicas and sell them to my classmates. They would tell me the grades they wanted, and I wrote it all up.

Update: I had the parent-teacher conference last night with his 3rd grade teacher and he's doing so much better now that he's been through eval and testing and its been determined that he has A) visual processing learning disability and B) ADHD. He's being treat with meds for the ADHD and doing remarkably well in that area. His behavior at school is fantastic! His teachers love him. The Learning Disability he has a special plan at school and he gets one-on-one resource instruction, special accomodations, and small group instruction as well.

He actually got a B in math! hooray! Things are looking up and he's feeling good about school.

That's great to hear, Smurfy. I know that ADHD is overly diagnosed but there are actual cases out there like yours that do need the diagnosis.
