Steal Cut oats vs Quaker Old Fashioned oatmeal

i use both of these. if i have time to cook the irish oatmeal i usually make that.

my question is there a big difference in the two?

in terms of labels they both provide the same amount of fiber & carbs per calories

what about the GI? are they similar?

i buy the "whole oats" from trader joes, they are bigger chunks and i like em better :D Someone said b4 that the steel cut are slightly lower gi b/c thy are not precooked... however, they also sell quick-cooking steelcut oats. I assume all oats are cut with steel... not many other materials that cutting tools are made out of.. :P

the steel cut irish oatmeal i have takes 30 mins to cook.... and 1/2 cup dry measure turns into almost 2 cups cooked. its unreal!

not much

they both have same cooking times, so it's not a big difference

what about the GI? are they similar? similar, yes, especially w/ the fiber count, I'm assuming you're referring to the long-cooking old fashioned oatmeal

i agree with x however to cut the cooking time what i do with steel cut oats is to soak them in boiling water over night then they only take ten minutes to cook the next day
