It won't make a great deal of difference in terms of results. But it is MUCH harder on your knees to do it that way. Best way to go is flat-footed, push off the heels.
i do a squat with my toes touching, heels bout3-4 inches apart and heels on a 45 plate
realy rips up my outer quads for more sweep
i will also use this for db squats, russian deads
