Squat Greater than deadlift

Deciever

New member
why is it that all the great powerlifters can squat more than they can deadlift...usually by a good 100lbs.. right now im deadlifting 100 more than squat.... i never really understood this.. any enlightenment would help

Whant to hear a story? Here it go!

It is not uncommon for beginners and intermediates to deadlift more than they squat. However, after significant training the rear chain increases in strength and the squat will surpass the deadlift. The rear chain muscles (hams, hips, glutes & lower back) are some of the largest and most powerful muscles in the body. If you continue to train heavy and perfect your technique it is more likely than not that your squat will eventually surpass your deadlift. The important thing is to go for big numbers and get your total up.

The grip eventually becomes the weakest link. You don't have that problem with the squat for all the reasons stated above.

The 2 main reasons are this -- as you become a more accomplished lifter you gain weight -- you have no choice in that. You normally will put weight on around your gut. The bigger around you are there the harder it is to dl, but it is fantastic for your squat. The other reason is equipment. There really is no special equipment that will add lbs to your dl like the gear adds to your squat.

My deadlift will kill my squat right now. Taking it easy on my retarded knee. I don't know how much longer i can keep being easy on it. I am tired of watching some people do only 225 and do more than me considering i once did breathing squats at 250 for 20 reps. But that's the past and this is now.

It hurts thinking back. I really shouldn't think so much.
