Splitting Leg Day

How many people here work their quads and hams separately? Where do you put glutes? What exercises do you do each day?

What are any thoughts on splitting leg day up?

Trying to change my workout and want to try new ideas....

Thanks! :)

I do them the same day - just feels right that way - but I alternate heavy/ light weeks for each - so the day I do heavy quads I do light hams and the other way round.

Some people put hams on back day, which works OK for them. For me I would find too much cross-over.

As for glutes - they get hit hard enough with squats, lunges, SLDL's, glute/ham raises that I don't have to do them separately.

I do calves on a separate day then legs - it just ended up where my partner and I do calves on a sep. day and it seems to be working out pretty good -

My wife was a very serious competitor. She got to a point in her training that she prefered to split her legs into morning/evening. She would go in and work quads in the morning... then go back to the gym that evening and do her hamstrings and calves.

She never felt right splitting hamstrings and calves onto different days, but she loved splitting it into morning and night.

I do train quads and hams on seperate days. I was wanting to bring up my hamstrings and really just improve my legs overall. On quad day I squat using various stances, then do leg ext, calves.I am working on bettering my squat form so I squat a lot really focusing on form and using like I said narrow stance to as wide as I can.

For hams I deadlift and also use various stances from narrow stance and wide grip, right on thru to widest stance narrower grip. I also use blocks to deadlift off of. I do lots of sets of these as well. After deads I like to do leg curls and than stiff legged deads or goodmornings.

Please note that I do not use awesome weights like some of the girls do. The weights are manageable for me and I am making progress. I just not like squatting several hundred pounds! I just like to really work the weight and use perfect form and increase the weight by small increments.

Yes-I have benefitted from splitting my leg work out as above. I won't do it forever but it sure has helped me . FWIW I usually add one other body part like bis on squat day. That is just for maintence on them . The legs were really lacking.-Valerie

This is something I'd actually like to try, but just don't have enough hours in the day and days in the week. Why can't we have like 4 more hours each day. :-)

If you try it, please let us know how it works out.
