I'm a logger and do not have acess to microwaves and kitchenettes during my work day. I tried bringing precooked chicken and steak but it froze and became unedible.
I just got a food dehydrator the other day.... MAGIC! I highly reccommend that for anybody in a similar situation!

That's really a great idea! I thought about getting one for my husband, so we can make our own deer jerky and such. But I don't know how often we'd actually use it. One thing he really appreciates when he's hunting is that bag of trail mix I hide in his jacket. LOL!

Just finished my first batch of turkey and chicken. Its better then I thought it was going to be. Finally! I'm going to get 400 grams of protien a day!

Do you need 400grs Prot/day?

How's chicken and turkey taste dehydrated? I always contemplated doing chicken in my dehydrator.

I love making beef jerky with mine. I would eat about 3 lbs a week, so addicting.

I also make dried banana chips... they are great too!

got mine at wal-mart for $35. it's a really good model too.

if you don't want to buy a dehydrator, you can google the recipe to dehydrate food in your oven. You just put the temp to like 250F and crack the door so the heat escapes..

how did you do the chicken?
did you just toss a whole chicken breast in there? or did you cook it first and then dehydrate it.

when I make turkey jerky (typically from leftovers after Thanksgiving) I just marinade leftover chunks of turkey boob in a soy sauce (+ other secret stuff) for a day or so and then toss it in the dehydrator for 8 hours or so. I absolutely love the stuff but alas poor dehydrator I knew him well. (My dehydrator passed on 2 years ago and I have yet to replace it.)

Cyrex- Could you imagine using a typical beef jerky seasoning for turkey? Would it turn out just as well, or is your concoction something completely different from what is used on beef.

I want to make terky jerky (that's what I'm gonna call it when I go big time and start sellin' the shit), but I have yet to get some turkey.
