smith machine pros and cons

It seems like most of you on here have strong opinions on using the smith machine either some are pro and some are against. was hoping to have a good debate on it. I have been against it a while but now i am forced to use it at my new gym since they don't have much high end equipment.

count me as against.

the smith machine moves on a rail up and down. using it will open yourself up to injuries and does not allow your core to compensate for that balance.

you can actually easily blow out joints and discs using them for this reason.

I am neutral. I will sometimes intentionally use it when I want to focus on a muscle and take the stabilizers out of it.
I won’t use it when I want the stabilizers to be activated.

If it is all you have then use it but it would not be my first choice. I like having the freedom to move in my own range of motion.
