Shirt and board press... (Spatts?)

b fold the truth

I was just curious if you thought that me wearing a bench shirt while doing board presses (1-4 boards) would help me in my training?

I'd like to do a Pling meet this fall or next Spring...but would also need to continue to work on my overhead press (more important to me). Do you think that wearing a shirt on board presses would give me another effective variation on the board press (which I use to help increase my lockout/tric strength on my ohp)?

I haven't done them, but some of the guys in our crew do, and I believe they picked that up from some MM ideas. Which means, I might be adopting that technique soon myself! Try it, and let me know if it works. ;)

Forgive me if I am reading this wrong, but are you saying that you don't do shirted board presses? I could just be slow.

B, we started using them about a year ago at the advice of benchmonster, and I think they work pretty well. I always try to break a raw record before I put on the shirt.

Not sure how well they would translate into overhead strength.

We don't, or at least I don't, start out that way no. I work up raw, and then switch. I don't design a "3 board shirted press" day, and just do that. And we don't do them with high boards because it's senseless.

I think they work very well B, everytime I have started at 4 boards with a shirt and worked down to a 2 board or off my chest I have gotten a pr, I think it teaches you to use the shirt more and lets you get used to the groove faster.
