Salmon Question

Ok.. I know the farm grown salmon got the omega-3 sucked out.. but which salmon is OK? Just King Atlantic or any fresh salmon?

Also.. which salmon supposedly has mercury?

Thanks

Any wild salmon will be better than farm raised

Salmon from Alaska and Scotland are the most famous ones (canadian wild salmon is also a good choice)

After looking into the matter lately (cause I eat ALOT of salmon), I found that you are better off with wild salmon (Canadian wild is what I eat), however, eating farm raised salmon instead of wild is, although likely not quite as good for you, still a better choice than most foods. Farm raised salmon is NOT devoid of omega 3's or other beneficial EFAs (although the way the press makes it sound the stuff will kill you with just one bite).

If you default to the wild salmon choice, and eat farm when wild is just not available (or affordable), you will be just fine. In order to aquire a significant dose of the nasty stuff in wild salmon you'd have to eat a truckload. Just eat it, your still better off.

If I were you I'd be more likely to boycott wild because of the increadibly brutal impact it has on the environment rather than what it contains (or doesn't). Farmed salmon is KILLLING, yes KILLING wild salmon stocks in Europe (close to dead now in some areas), British Columbia, and now South America. Truly an evil industry.

All wild fish has some amount of mercury. It's in the water. Large fish like swordfish and shark have more than others, but I'd avoid making fish your staple and get a merc check whenever you get bloodwork done.

did you mean boycott the farmed?

anyhow yeah, i agree, farmed has less w3 but still lots of it

i wouldnt touch salmon anyway...the way they feed those things is asking for trouble. people under-rate Mackrel IMO, its PACKED with EFA's and isn;t farmed to my knowledge, plus it tastes better than salmon (IMO :D)

I like my Mackerel ground to a fine sludge in the garbage disposal so I can have salmon instead.

Do you eat salmon with PCBs or with dioxines ?
:worried:
