Recovery from torn muscle

What's the best way to recover from a torn muscle? I tore my left anterior tibialisis (calf). I am hoping elevation, rest, ice and compression for a few weeks will allow me to run gently. I don't know if I should do direct work on the calves in the gym for two months though.

My doc says if I stay off of it, it should get better soon. If I don't, it could be screwed up for life, so I'm in no hurry to get back. So I'll probably watch my calves go away before I lift again.

anterior tibialis muscle- you mean shin muscle- front of the lower leg, right? you say 'calf'...?

tore my ant tib from too much uphill running without stretching (learned my lesson there!)... Phy therapist did some massage & stretching on me, and told me to not even think of uphills or running for awhile... worked wonders in a few weeks... totally back to normal shortly.
Warm-ups & stretches are SO important to prevent this injury. Good luck :)

Yes, you're right flex, I was just thinking of it as a part of the overall calf muscle. My injury occurred similar to the way yours did, long run the day after a grueling leg workout and I probably didn't stretch enough.

I pray that mine heals as fast as yours did, thanks for the tip.
